News item: “General Dan Harel of the Southern Command signed the order to forbid anyone from moving his living quarters into the Gaza Strip… Other constraints and limitations will be imposed on those seeking to change their address to any of those settlements destined for uprooting and expulsion…”

Disengagement: a word clothed in see-through wrapping which cannot hide the huge lie being promulgated against Jews by other Jews.

Disengagement: a word invented and designed (successfully, so far) to mask the atrocity about to befall the Jews – in Gaza in particular but worldwide in general.

Israel’s democratically elected prime minister has embarked on a dictatorial path of which Italy’s Mussolini and Spain’s Franco would have been proud. Every possible maneuver, trick and plot has been employed by Sharon and his henchmen who have, in effect, hijacked Israel’s democracy.

Totalitarianism is the order of the day; woe onto those who refuse to conform or surrender their basic rights guaranteed in any democracy. Contrary opinions are forbidden and mouths that dare protest are shut as the iron fist of dictatorship sweeps away every element of resistance. Mass firings of loyal officials, intimidation, misinformation and the besmirching of heretofore sterling reputations combine to create fear of dissent. How low has Israel fallen?

The collapse of Israel’s alleged democracy continues in dizzying fashion. Long-time loyal supporters (the settlers) of Sharon have become the enemy, and those who unceasingly vilified Sharon (Labor, Peace Now) are embraced with love and affection.

Harnessing every political method and military option at his disposal, Sharon blindly gallops onward as his newly acquired accomplices (mercenaries temporarily siding with him until they decide to go for his jugular) interpret the law as fits their agenda.

Remember the slogan “Never Again”? What a lie! A Jewish promise, false, it turns out, to never again permit the mistreatment of Jews to go unchallenged. Laughable, were it not tragic. “Never Again,” we vowed. But the reality of Jews being expelled, uprooted and deprived of their basic rights and choices is once more upon us.

This time we are the ones lighting the match whose fire will spread and consume every corner of the world where Jews are living. “Look,” the world will point at the vivid pictures of Jews being forced out of their homes. “Look at what Jews are doing to Jews. If this is the case, Jews, seal your lips, lower your voices and silence the protests you direct against the re-emerging anti-Semitism. Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.”

Never Again? Please.

In Israel today, to protest is to incite, to state a contrary opinion is to commit sedition. Wearing the color of orange is provocative and an incitement. Showing legitimate, peaceful solidarity with those destined to have their lives upended is labeled as traitorous. Those honorable politicians who insist on following the party platform they were elected on are called “rebels,” but those who arbitrarily rescind their vows to the electorate have no shame or regret in pursuing a path they were not elected to walk on.

Laws are passed in quick succession, each destined to further curtail and stymie legitimate opposition. Jails are being emptied of murderers (yes, even those with “blood on their hands”) and DP camps are being erected in North Gaza. DP camps for the settlers! Are the German Shepherd attack dogs around the corner? And electrified barbed wire?

Synagogues are to be demolished…in Israel! Jewish cemeteries to be desecrated…by Jews in Israel! Soldiers and police are being trained to fight women and children. “Break their arms and legs,” implores a previously hawkish official. “A civil war won’t hurt us,” says another elected official. Civil war. Jew against Jew. Assistant Attorney General Shai Nitzan issues a call to “lock up anti-disengagement activists without trials.” Democracy? Fascism.
