UC Merced tweeted just after 8 a.m. that a stabbing was reported in front of the university’s Classroom and Office Building.

Of the four stabbed, two were students, one a staff member and one a vendor. Several of the victims were airlifted to a local hospital, while the rest were treated on campus. All are expected to recover from their wounds.

The alleged attacker was shot by UC Merced police, and later died of his injuries, according to a statement released by the university. His identity has not yet been released, but the university confirmed that he was a male student in his 20s.

A motive for the attack was either unknown or not yet released.

Classes were canceled for the day and the campus will remain closed through tomorrow, Thursday, Nov. 5.

The University of California at Merced is located to the east of San Diego, between Fresno and Modesto. It is the tenth and newest of the University of California campuses. Approximately 6500 students attend UCM, most of whom are from California.

on May 16, 2009, First Lady Michelle Obama gave the commencement address for the university’s first full graduating class.

No word yet on whether the campus police will be castigated for “executing” a crazed person in the midst of stabbing innocent victims, as happens when Israeli police or soldiers neutralize terrorist stabbers.

UPDATE: On Thursday, Nov. 5, the 18 year old stabber was identified as Faisal Mohammad.

Mohammad was a freshman at UC Merced and is from Santa Clara, Sheriff Vern Warnke told the Merced Sun-Star. Warnke said the investigators “were still looking into the motive for the attack and that it remained too early to release further details.”
