The Russian daily Kommersant reported Monday that Russia has signed a contract to sell fighter jets to Syria, in an attempt to bolster President Bashar al-Assad’s embattled regime.

The report stated that 36 Yak-130 aircraft would be delivered to Syria for a price tag of $550 million.
