Victim of Scientology Recites his Plight as Church’s New Tel-Aviv Center Is Inaugurated

Scientology Center, Tel Aviv

Back in October, 2010, nine workers were saved from a burning building belonging to the Scientology movement in Tel Aviv. Arson was suspected as the cause of the fire. The fire spread to the stairwell, preventing the workers from escaping the building on their own. Firefighters that arrived on the scene successfully overcame the blaze and save the workers. On Tuesday, the new, renovated Scientology Center is opening at the same address.

Recently, Maariv reported that Scientology members in Israel distributed a document that caused an unprecedented storm. The document, “open letter to all Scientologists,” was signed by 14 members of the “Dror College,” a Scientology center in Haifa. The document revealed in great detail the “crimes” they claimed had been committed by the elders of the Main Church of Scientology.

According to Maariv, the document used internal language and codes familiar to the faithful, providing a rare and disturbing glimpse at what happens inside the church. It shed light on the mechanism by which the church operates, including – according to the authors – threats, slander, boycotts, financial exploitation, false propaganda, information control, and a prohibition on the transfer of control or exposure to negative content. “Because of the situation we had to expose the crimes. We do not see any other solution. This is not comfortable, it will make a lot of mess,” the authors wrote.

Apparently, there is a rebellion taking place within the Scientology movement, which encompasses many of its branches in the U.S. as well. It appears that the Scientology movement may be in trouble.

But you wouldn’t get it from the way Scientology is being treated by the Tel Aviv city council, which endowed the Church with the magnificent Alhambra edifice in Jaffa. Two years after the fire, and only a few months after the movement’s attorney was indicted for ordering gangland-style hits on his ex-wife’s husband, the façade, at least, appears solid.

And then IDF Radio on Tuesday morning interviewed Erez Meshulam, who said his family fell apart after his wife had joined the Church of Scientology.

Host Niv Raskin asked Meshulam about the events of 14 years ago, when his wife responded to a Help Wanted ad in the newspaper.

According to Meshulam, the address his wife reached was the Scientology run college. She was handed a 300-question questionnaire, and after she filled it out, Meshulam said it turned out that she was “depressed.”

She was sent by the center to a course in communication, that cost her only 300 shekel ($75). “That’s when the process began, of her falling deeper and deeper into Scientology,” he said.

The host, Raskin, asked if during the course his wife mentioned the term “Scientology.”

“We knew it was a college of Scientology, which must be like any other college,” his guest answered. “I had no idea that Scientology was a cult. Also, after she had started with Scientology she had turned much, much happier. So I was so happy that my wife was happy. Why not?”

Meshulam proceeded: “So she continued to join another course, and another, and it really makes her happier and happier each time.”

He notes: “I did not know what we were entering. They combat Ritalin and other psychiatric drugs. My reaction was, Great, at last there’s an organization that fights over this issue. Until the time my wife, slowly but surely, began to transform.”

“What do you mean?”

“First her body language. When she responded to me, it was a ‘uh hmm,’ a kind of confirmation that she heard me, not more. Slowly this person I had known was changing, and then she started joining courses for 15 thousand shekel ($3,750)…”

“What kind of courses?”

“They audit the students. The idea is that the more you cleanse yourself of your past, so will your life become happier. So you can go back a billion years – for 15 thousand. She was going deeper, and our economic situation was very, very bad. It meant we didn’t buy the kids shoes. We took hand-me-downs from the family. Still, we went and took out a loan from the bank – my parents came and co-signed. And my brother lent us 20 thousand shekel ($4,000).

  1. Even in ISRAEL this cult is making a fortune.

  2. The Tel Aviv city council sounds as bad as do nothing city councils elsewhere. Scientology sends in some folks, spreads some lies, hints at campaign support. What do YOU people have to give these fine men and women besides horror stories? Those don't get you reelected!

  3. David Reynolds says:

The church of scientology accuses its critics of the things it does, lying being just one.

  4. It is ironic that secular Jews in Israel who tend to view Judaism as superstitious fall.
    victim to pure snake-oil.

It is possible to reconcile Torah v Mahah as the Modern Orthodox do, but it is not possible to reconcile the Church of Scientology with either reason or any money in the bank.

  5. Scientology uses mind control. I had a guy years ago telepathically will me across the street and bring him home to sleep with him (never had seen him before). Then he told me he was into scientology, so I knew. They run the CCHR, which does GOOD work exposing the genocidal abuses of psychiatry, but this whole dynamic is the devil pointing fingers at himself in another form. This is how he & his followers operate to suck people in; they speak the truth about the sin s of someone else or a group, to seduce people to side with them. The devil is on every side of every issue, really. we live ina contaminated world where he infiltrates & runs nearly every human organization. It is an old game, the devil creates a problem, to sell us his 'solution'. we all need to have a relationship with God thru the Holy Spirit, the siprit of truth, to help us discern what is true or false. God talks to everyone in our thoughts. Our conscience is God Our intuition is God leading us. we need to trust it. see article "intuition is god leadings usi".

  6. psychiatry is evil; it is a front for nazi genocide. The drugs cause mental ilness, suicide, homicide, brain damage, liver, kidney damage. All the mass shooters were ON them. See my article "The mental health sysetm is a FRONT for nazi genocide". The nazis killed metnal patients with psych drugs before the jews. This genocide has never stopped. its target is blacks, jews, christians, the poor, mentally ill & others. teh people who run mental health at the top level are masons, devil worshippers. I have seen the handbook for 32 level scottish rite masony, writtten by aLBERT pIKE, A SAT-IST. it says 'we worship teh luciferian principle, but don't tell the lower levels this. " psychiatry, scientology,, masonry are all demonic cults. The lower levels are useful idiots to the higher ups with their hidden agendas. all the cults have ties to masonry & are occult.

  7. I left the new age movement years ago when the thought came to me "if this is from God it should be FREE". This was god speaking to me. He talks to us in our thojghts. our conscience is God. so it our intuition.
The new age healers all charge. So does scientolgy, obviously. Jesus healed for FREE & told his followes to do so. matthew 10:8. All mental & physical illnesses are caused by demonic spirits whose assignments are teh names of those diseases. Jesus rebuked them & gave his followers authority to do it. I have done it. I have rebuked canc-, asth,-. depress. Jesus healed as a testimony that he4 WAS the savior & God heals today when we pray in Jesus' name for the same purpose. My free books & articles tell how to be healed, & saved. God's prophets did NOT charge for their messages; neither do I. see articles "letter to.
a new ager on spiritual deception{". Intuition is God leadings us", Do you believe God speaks to you-he Does in our thoughts. How to be healed, saved & born again. jesus heals.

  8. Gil Gilman says:

Scientology is neither science nor ology…lol…back in the day, they used a simplified form of biofeedback called the E meter, basically like a lie detector, and have built up their pseudo psychology from there. Many of converts appear to actually need real psychological help, including their leaders and PR people. Many of the rest are merely bandwagon people, impressionable people, and those who wake up, and leave, are hounded or discredited. One must sacrifice relationships to these rebels and involvement in the organization causes family difficulties and estrangement.

Back in my youth I delighted in engaging in debate with Moonies, Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, Scientologists, all Religions with outrageous lies at the root of their beginnings, and found each to be ill prepared at best to carry on a dialogue that was both informed and cogent. I am still willing in my dotaring years to take any of them on. Please send them my way! They have nothing to offer but control and manipulation.

  9. Gil Gilman says:

Scientology preys on the weak willed and naive. It was started by a writer of science fiction. They use biofeedback to control and blackmail those who are foolish enough to fall into their net.

  10. This is beyond deplorable.

  11. Liad Bar-el says:

Ology means “study of”. Maybe if the government would make a study of why they allow such cults into Israel, they might come up with an analysis of a post Holocaust persecution complex thereby allowing each and every king of religion into Israel so that we could practice Judaism without more persecution. Little do they know that this will not stop persecution but rather open up the doors to a worse scenario of them “soul snatching”.

If the Israeli government doesn’t want any more persecutions, then develop/implement laws based on the Torah. “Be not like the horse, or the mule, devoid of understanding; that must be restrained by bit and bridle so they do not come near you.” (Psalm 32:9).

  12. Grace Acosta says:

What has happened to Meshulam and his family is tragic. WAKE UP! This is what happens when you don't have Torah in your life. I am appalled that the State allows Scientologists to set one foot on their soil, never mind let them start taking over.

Let them go set up a "college" in Ramallah, and see how well THAT goes over!

  13. Angela Wilde says:

This story just proves what was written by TIME Magazine in the 90's. Scientology is a cult of greed. This woman was asked to take more and more "courses" which were more and more expensive. That's what they're after, your wallet, not your soul. But how could this woman abandon her children? Is Scientology proud of that? They are master liars and manipulators and I am shocked that Israel would allow them in their country. Can't they shut it down? This article needs to be distributed to a national audience and people ought to rise up and protest. This cult of greed has got to stop!

  14. Kara Secinore says:

Scientology is the result of a failed Science Fiction writer, who, himself once stated that the best way to make money is to form a religious following(CULT!)! To boot, I found a book written by Ron L. Hubbard in a dollar Store-I mean, come on, shouldn't that tell you something? Hubbard's in it for the money, and now it's out of control! I really try to respect everyone's religious opinions, but seriously, what harm Scientology has done to so manyt innocents is deplorable! All I can say is I'm glad I take Psychiatric Medication-cuz they don't believe in that-And it's likelybe cause in any other situation, those who follow this sham would be branded as Mentally Ill themselves!

  15. Hubbard may be gone, but the con lives on. Hopefully, with ll the attention it's been getting in the press as of late and the film 'The Master' coming out, it won't go on for too much longer.

  16. Karen Silver says:

I think L Ron Hubbard pulled off a massive practical joke with Scientology. It's not funny.

  17. Karen Silver says:

I would love to see how the Gaza Scientology Center does.

  18. Ellen Berman Fix says:

Many Rabbis have reviewed the purposes, precepts and results of Scientology and have claimed that in no way do the principles conflict with the practice of Judaism. The NYC Scientology Center has a file of these documented and signed by Rabbis.
