Yankee – stay home. Mr. President, you’ve started so many fires in this region, what with your fantastic Al Azhar, Cairo appearance of 2009 and the toppling of President Hosni Mubarak, who, like Saddam, was “an S.O.B. but our S.O.B.” to quote JFK – but you wanted better for Egypt and the region, and now, thanks in large part to you and you predecessor, we’re having such a bonfire of the vanities it’ll take us a century to recover. Please, if you know what’s good for America and for the Middle East – leave Syria alone.

They’ll figure it out eventually. The Kurds have already splintered, as they’ve done in Iraq. The rest of the country will probably retreat eventually into separate corners to lick their wounds. If you intensify the conflict now, Mr. President, you’ll be transforming a bloody civil war into an outright genocide.
