There was nothing to be done about it now. The receptionist opened her appointment book and set up a new appointment for my daughter with the correct dentist. In contrast to her Eicha-like lamentations of the previous hour or more, however, my youngest was now grinning from ear-to-ear.

Apparently, no sincere teshuvah goes unnoticed and unrewarded. True, her reprieve was only for three weeks, at which time she would have to pay the piper. But, from the bounce in her step and the smile on her face during the return journey, that minor factoid appeared to have eluded her. As for the future prospects of her list of promises and dentist-induced resolutions, the requisite kabbalah al ha’asid, only time will tell…
