Christians United for Israel–A Breath of Fresh Air

CUFI

CUFI: Amidst the Fires Surrounding Israel, A Breath of Fresh Air. On July 21 and 22 in Washington DC, several thousand Christians will gather to celebrate and to say nice things about Israel. This will be the ninth annual Christians United for Israel ( CUFI) Summit which has met each year since 2006 under the hard hitting, visionary leadership of Pastor John Hagee. David Brog, the capable Executive Director, is also the author of several books the most recent of which is In Defense of Faith: The Judeo-Christian Idea and the Struggle for Humanity. Brog whimsically claims to audiences that he a “thoroughly Jewish Jew” who was inspired by the idea of being in the driver’s seat of a conservative, pro-Israel Christian organization. Who would have thought? With Brog and Hagee at the helm, Christians United for Israel ( CUFI) is making a Herculean attempt to counter the growing culture of anti-Semitism in the United States by harnessing a sometimes elusive Christian pro-Israel, pro-Jewish sentiment. With 1.7 million members, CUFI is a growing, vocal remnant among what is estimated by Pew Research to be 246 million Christians living in the USA.

Those attending the CUFI Summit include both Christians and Jews from everywhere in the United States and a smattering of foreign nations. They will hear a lineup of speakers focused on, among other things, the importance of supporting Israel in a climate where supporting Israel is not always very popular.

The extraordinary aspect of the Summit is the speakers who come from every corner of the pro-Israel spectrum. Among them will be: Dennis Prager, a prominent syndicated radio talk show host and columnist as well as a Jewish political conservative; Erick Stakelbeck, host of CBN’s The Watchman and author of The Brotherhood and The Terrorist Next Door; Elliott Abrams, a Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations and a former National Security Advisor; Dr. Charles Krauthammer, a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist and author of a current best-selling book Things That Matter: Three Decades of Passions, Pastimes and Politics ; James Woolsey, a foreign policy specialist and former Director if the CIA. And so it goes. Jews, Christians and curbstone setters of almost every color, size, variety and vision speak at the CUFI Summit. But the one thing that drives them all is a love for and an understanding of the importance of Israel on the world stage.

While the CUFI delegations are busy paying tribute and celebrating Israel, there are those in other neighborhoods who have sinister plans for her annihilation. As you read this, you may have noticed that there are active military events going on in and around Israel. On the western front, Israel is trying to curb Hamas rockets from Gaza; on the Golan, Israel is fending off Syrian fighting; on Israel’s northern border , Hezbollah has positioned thousands of long and short range rockets aimed at Tel Aviv. And let’s not forget Iran which is rapidly moving toward becoming a nuclear presence and an avowed threat to Israel’s destruction.

While assaults on Israel are nothing new, the size and scope of the current aggression is now both multi-national and multicultural, coming not from one nation but from many and with the support of many more. The Bible tells stories of endless attempts to terminate the Jews and the Jewish nation. These are the stories remembered each year at millions of Passover Seders and at Purim celebrations. From the Pharaoh of ancient Egypt to the venomous bluster of Ahmadinejad, from Haman to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, from Hitler to Stalin and in every generation there is a lineup of Jew Killers waiting in the wings for their opportunity to forge the elements of the next Holocaust.

  6. yep we love the god of Israel and long for his return

  7. Tracy Ramsey says:

I only wish they’d lay off the “kill them all” nonsense. It seems that 90% of the time, it’s our blood thirsty Christian friends who can’t grasp the irony of advocating genocide on a Jewish site. It really is uncomfortable, no matter who’s doing it.

  8. As a Christian who loves G-D, I in NO WAY support the “kill them all” mentality! That is not of G-D’s heart!

  9. Jews are a fascinating people.

  12. Guess every group has moles in it. I really wish people would quit trying to use Israel’s problems to further there own agenda.

  13. Is the BDS-loving, Jew-hating Presbyterian group cheering for Hamas?

  14. Beverly Bass says:

Totally agree with you Tracy…I find that awful & it creates more and more hatred against the Jewish people everywhere. When I see pictures of Gazans running from their homes and dead children, I grieve very very hard …as do most Jews. Please , Evangelicals, both Jewish & Christian…it is against Gd’s teachings to wish death & mayhem on other people…self defense is one thing, genocide is another…

  15. I am Christian and I support Israel.

  16. Yes israel is our brother. I pray for Israël victory

  17. I don’t know about agendas, but I grew up in an evangelical Christian home and was taught, by my mother, the Scriptures about blessing Israel and the wonderful plans and purposes God has for His people. I grew up in America, but married a man from India. He is also a Christian and believes the Scriptures; his family supports Israel. I have many evangelical Christian relatives and friends and they are all staunch supporters of Israel. I have many friends who are not Christian, but are Muslim, atheist, Hindu etc. A great majority of them do not support Israel and hate her, in fact. So I don’t know about the validity of these statistics, but I see it in my life’s experience.

  18. We are with you Israel and always will be :)))

  19. Lisa Zweigle says:

We are fellow heirs in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior and we are praying for you all in Israel

  20. Sara Mount says:

Hello? Do you not know what the word evangelical means? to evangelize is to missionize.

  21. Lisa Zweigle says:

Not everyone who calls Me Lord Lord will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do His will….His will is to Love God will all our heart minds and souls and to love our neighbor as ourselves…pray for our enemies and do good to those who say all kinds of evil against you for His name sake. Prayer is the only real power that will stop our enemies…When we have done all we can in prayer, then we stand in faith.

  22. Dorothy Phenicie, Maranatha Mark, Jim Fletcher

  23. Amen Liza! God has the power to destroy enemies. If so it needs to as his will we have to not because we want it but because his will. If Israel won’t fight they’ll be gone ashes. God’s army IDF has the authoruty to fight for the good fight for Peace! Praying…

  24. Nigerian christians stand firmly with Israel!!!

  25. And this is what we have sunk to, support from idolators. Our former murderers.

  26. Yes, waiting for your god to return from the dead.

  27. There are no Jewish evangelicals. They’re called apostates.

  28. Diane Hudson says:

May the Messiah come back soon!

  29. Susan Reyes says:

    better than the presbyterians!

  30. Randyll RG says:

I don’t think that Christian Zionists supporting Israel is healthy at all. There are lots of valid, supportable reasons to do so, but “Jews living in Israel will be the ignition for Armageddon” is kind of ****ing insane.

  31. Randyll RG says:

I find them incredibly creepy :

  32. Jose Pedro says:

They dont worship idols like catholics

  33. Michael Hart says:

I thought the Presbyterians stood for Hamas???? That’s a serious question

  34. Are you, Jewish Press, surprised? If so, you shouldn’t be. This has been the case all along!

  38. I know most Christians are G-d fearing and decent people, but I can’t help thinking that some have ulterior motives. Many have tried to convert us for 1900 yrs & killed us when we refused.

  42. THE GREATEST INTERVIEW ON JERUSALEM YOU WILL EVER SEE

    http://www.israelvideonetwork.com/the-greatest-interview-on-jerusalem-you-will-ever-see
Dr. Mordechai Kedar of Bar-Ilan University defends the Jewishness of Jerusalem, the Jewish capital for over 3000 years.

He also defends the right of Israelis to settle in Judea and Samaria, the West Bank.

“We were here when your forefathers were drinking wine, burying their daughters alive and worshipping idols” — this was just one of Bar Ilan University political scientist

Dr. Mordechai Kedar’s ripostes to questions by an Al Jazeera interviewer two weeks ago, in an interview that has received rave reviews from Israel-lovers the world over for its forcefulness.

“They did not expect me to take the discussion to history and especially not to religion,” Kedar told Israel National News.

But discuss religion he did in the above video, reminding his interviewer that Jerusalem was not mentioned even once in the Koran and saying directly in fluent Arabic that

“Jerusalem is not on the negotiating table,” and that “Jerusalem belongs to the Jews, period.”

“This was very aggravating” for the Al-Jazeera interviewer, Kedar explained, “because in the Islamic view, Islam came into the world to replace Judaism and Christianity, not to live side by side with them.

And here, all of a sudden, the Jews are coming from exile and building their state again and G-d forbid they also regained Jerusalem.”

Judaism is thus regaining its meaning, and Islam is challenged by this, the Bar-Ilan professor explained. “The mere existence of the State of Israel and the fact that we are in Jerusalem is some kind of challenge to the legitimacy of Islam in their eyes,” Kedar explained.

  48. Stop dropping bombs on kids

  49. There are no Jews who follow jesus. PERIOD.

  50. Wow – after reading many self-righteous comments where “good” Christians are busily patting themselves on the back, I decided I would share something a Rabbi & author of the book ‘Judaism And Christianity: A Contrast’ told me when we were discussing “missionaries”….he said whenever he is repeatedly told by Christians how very much they LOVE the Jews and support Israel he says,

“Well I am glad that you love the Jews and support Israel. However, I would be happier if you loved the Judaism that makes me a Jew, and support my CHOICE of Judaism that keeps me a Jew.”

  51. Rick Lutes says:

Interesting how many people responded knowing nothing of the situation.

  52. Just no Presbyterians.

  53. Thank you to the religious Christians of America, who are the real Christians. The Presbyterians are a fraudulent cult and they can drop dead.
