On Saturday at 10 AM, the IDF control systems identified a penetration by an unmanned aircraft from the Mediterranean, entering over Gaza, into the south of Israel.

The drone was under continuous surveillance from the air and the ground upon entering Israeli airspace, including an escort from IAF fighter jets, as it traveled some 100 kilometers over Israel.

The drone was shot down by an F-16 (“Sufa”) with an anti-aircraft missile, in the area of Yatir forest in the northern Negev (the south Mount Hebron area), in order to prevent damage to populated areas.

IDF forces are collecting fragments of the aircraft to try to identify with certainty its origin and mission.

It is now believed that the drone was launched from Lebanon and traveled south until it turned into Israel. That could mean it was controlled by Hezbollah or Iran.

IDF Spokesperson Yoav Mordechai said the drone was being tracked the entire time it was over Israel.

Prime Minister Netanyahu praised the IDF’s actions and said, “We will continue to defend our borders at sea, on land and in the air to secure Israel’s citizens.”

MK Miri Regev (Likud) wrote on her Facebook page that the drone was an Iranian drone launched by Hezbollah.

MK Michael Ben-Ari (National Union) is saying the traversal of the drone over Israeli airspace for nearly a half hour was a significant security failure.

One Response to “Watch: Enemy Drone Shot Down Over Israel”

  1. half an hour flying over this little country way way way to much time to allow this to happen to gather and transmit information. I am sure most israelis are not going to be happy about that. we don't need our enemies getting so much knowledge, it went over military bases too. no this is not good.

  2. Lets hope it wasn't an American Spy Drone. I'm surprised that if it belonged to the enemy that it didn't act as it flew over Israel.
    Congratulations IDF nice shot.

  3. Kola Finger says:

Well Done, IDF. This however show the real scenario existing today, and Israel must watch the skies for a countless of such enemies drones, or rockets, or other enemy flying-bombs…

An enemy drone over Israel for 100km (62miles)..is 100 Km too long..

  6. Rudiger Laufhutte says:

    One down!

  7. Anonymous says:

Nice kill. But drones should be turned back to its launch site. You know you can do it!

  8. And what would have happened if that had been a high altitude missile armed with a nuclear warhead able to release its damage before being shot down? NO, there should not be allowed any drone, missile, plane, balloon, or any suspicious craft to enter into Israeli airspace.

  9. Syrian rebels now have drones. I would imagine that if this is Iranian it will be false-flagged.

  10. Syrian rebels now have drones. I would imagine that if this is Iranian it will be false-flagged.

  11. This is ominous! What if the next unmanned drone heads for Haifa, Tel Aviv, or any other coastal community instead of a 100 km test over Israel?

  12. Liad Bar-el says:

For sure this was a test of our readiness. One half hour? Presently, it seems that Iran could fly in, bomb Dimona, land in Jerusalem Atarot air-port, buy some humus, fly back and bomb the Knesset on the way out all the while feeling tempted to fly back and get some schwarma also. In the meanwhile, the IDF is consulting with their attorneys to find out what to so that the leftist media won’t prosecute them before the public.

  13. Liad Bar-el says:

Debka File: "As it is, the sophisticated aerial surveillance vehicle was able to cover the space over the IDF’s southern facilities, the town of Beersheba and the Israeli Air Force base at Nevatim before it was shot down over the Yatir forest south of Mt. Hebron. Its primary missions may have been to record the electronic signatures of the Dimona nuclear reactor’s air defense systems and the American X-band radar station in the Negev, which is linked to the US X-band station in Turkey. Together, they are the “forward eyes” of the joint US-Israeli shield against Iranian ballistic missile attack.
If the intruder came to spot the gaps in that shield, it would have succeeded."

  14. adamgreenfield says:

Dec 2011: Obama on Monday acknowledged that Iran was holding the reconnaissance drone — a bat-winged RQ-170 Sentinel — by saying: “We’ve asked for it back. We’ll see how the Iranians respond.”

He asked for it back, how cute! Now they have obviously reverse-engineeered it and testing it over Israel. Maybe Barack Huessein Obama can ask them to cut it out!

Obama’s foreign policy is a disaster. For the sake of the world please vote Romney.

  15. WE MUST FIGHT TO SAVE ISRAEL. ANOTHER HOLOCAUST MAY OCCUR. I FOR ONE , CHILD OF HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS, WHO LOST SIBLINGS, GRANDPARENTS, AUNTS AND UNCLES, and cousins WILL FIGHT WITH ALL MY MIGHT. ELECT ROMNEY. DO YOU TRUST OBAMA? DO YOU WANT YOUR KIDS OR GRANDCHILDREN TO GROW UP LIKE ME WITH THE MEMORIES OF THE HOLCAUST ANDA FAMILY DESTROYED. The extremist muslims are the new nazis. I HAVE THE GUTS TO SAY THIS BECAUSE IT IS TRUE. rabbi dr. bernhard rosenberg
