This past summer, the municipality of Jerusalem banned posters and billboards of the Hazon Movement declaring that a normal Jewish family is headed by a father and a mother.

Responding to a complaint by a LGBT rights group, the municipality had the signs removed for being offensive. In response, the Hazon Movement appealed to the Jerusalem Municipal Court which turned to the Attorney General for his opinion. The attorney general has now ruled that the sign is not offensive and that banning it violates democratic freedom of expression, which should only be suppressed in extreme cases.

In light of his opinion, the Jerusalem Municipality agreed not to remove similar signs in the future while reserving the right to do so during sensitive periods, such as the days surrounding Jerusalem’s gay pride parade.

Rav Dror Aryeh, founder of the Hazon Movement and leader of the Noam Party, declared the decision a small victory over aggressive liberal movements working to undermine traditional Jewish values and the Jewish character of the state.

A spokesman for the organization told The Jewish Press that Hazon has started a campaign asking concerned people to hang up the signs on their terraces and to fund a campaign that will see this message on public bulletin boards and billboards throughout the country.
