The Torah introduce us to Isaac’s legacy by going back a generation, to Abraham, Isaac’s father – why? Does the Torah understand what legacy is? In this week’s video, Rabbi Fohrman looks at several instances of the word “toldot” to argue that we produce not only children, but a vision and a legacy.

  1. since Isaac was the child of the promise, which was promised to Abraham and sarah, and Ishmael was conceived out of unfaithfullness, Abraham and Sarah got impatient concerning the promise of G-d that Sarah would bear a son. And so the Lord G-d spoke these Words. "The son of the bond woman shall not inherit with the son of the promise." Therefore the descendants of Ishmael and the descendants of Isaac are constantly at war. even as Ishmael was cruel to Isaac while children and Abraham had to send them into the desert.
