The Novominsker Rebbe, Rabbi Yaakov Perlow

The Novominsker Rebbe, Rabbi Yaakov Perlow, a major force in Orthodox Jewish circles and the head of Agudath Yisrael in the United States, delivered a message this weekend urging Jews to comply with lockdown orders and to cooperate with doctors’ guidelines.

“We have bowed our heads to the gezeira (edict)” he said.

We cannot behave the way we did last week or two weeks ago,” the Rebbe said in his message. “We’re told that the halacha (Jewish law) is that we must listen to doctors, whether it’s about a sick person or Yom Kippur.”
