At least a thousand people sang, clapped, waved Israeli flags and chanted as they marched their way around the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem on Saturday night.

The 25th annual Tisha B’Av Eve Walk Around the Walls of the Old City of Jerusalem began after the conclusion of the Sabbath with the reading of Eicha — the Book of Lamentations, followed by the screening of the film “From Ashes to Glory.” Shortly after 10 pm, The marchers set out for the annual journey that took them on a walk around the entire perimeter of the Old City of Jerusalem, passing by each of the gates as they went.

“Together we walk united for Israel’s sovereignty over the Land of Israel,” said the organizers of the event, Women in Green leaders Yehudit Katzoer and Nadia Matar.

Among the speakers who addressed the marchers on the subject of Tisha B’Av, and on Israeli sovereignty, were Rabbi Uri Sherki, MKs Ze’ev Elkin, Betzalel Smotrich, and Nir Barkat, as well as Deputy Jerusalem Mayor Chagit Moshe, Jerusalem City Council member Aryeh King, activist Orit Struck and Attorney Nili Naouri.
