Tel Belman, editor and publisher of the Israpundit website for more than 20 years, has passed away at the age of 87 after a lengthy illness.
Belman, who lived in Jerusalem, made aliyah from Toronto in 2009 after retiring from his law practice. He was also a trained engineer. In his younger years, he attended York University Osgoode Hall Law School.
Unwavering integrity, intellectual courage, and profound passion: Ted Belman exemplified these three qualities in his life and his work. Ted was a seeker, with deep conviction whose relentless pursuit of truth illuminated not only his own path with his beautiful family and grandchildren but also guided others in his political work,” Belman’s cousin, Yonasan Bender wrote in a deeply personal eulogy.
“Ted was a visionary thinker, capable of thinking both inside and outside of the box, gaining insights into topics which he shared with his readers in the thousands of articles which he penned over the years and the innumerable posts which he posted and reflected upon,” read the announcement posted by “Peloni,” a fellow editor on the Israpundit site.
“A man of truth in a world of lies,” he wrote in a separate lament over Belman’s passing.
Most of Belman’s work focused on Israel and the Middle East, although he also occasionally wrote on broader geopolitics as well.
His most famous treatise was an article in 2022 entitled “Israel Should Declare Three ‘No’s” – no to a nuclear Iran, no to the two-state solution, and no to a binational state.
Belman merited to see at least two of his three recommendations adopted by the Israeli government, which has since indeed declared “no” to a nuclear Iran, and “no” to the so-called ‘two-state solution.’
Ted Belman is survived by his daughter Aliza and several grandchildren.
