For the first time in almost a century, a total solar eclipse will occur across the entire continental United States.

Also for the first time, NASA is preparing to share this experience of a lifetime, which will take place on August 21.

At least three NASA aircraft, more than 50 high-altitude balloons and the astronauts aboard the International Space Station will all be standing by to help bring the beauty of the universe and the magnitude of a total eclipse to viewers around the world. A myriad of images will be captured via the above aircraft and personnel before, during and right after the eclipse for the edification of those who choose to watch or see the event afterwards.

NASA Television is also planning to air a multi-hour show, Eclipse Across America: Through the Eyes of NASA. The broadcast will feature unprecedented live video of the celestial event.

H/T to Aryeh Haffner!
