An eight year old boy was struck and killed Tuesday morning in a school parking lot by a school bus in Kibbutz Kfar Menachem, near the southern city of Kiryat Malachi.

The accident occurred as the boy was crossing at a crosswalk. The driver said he did not see the child, according to Israel public radio. Although medical and emergency rescue responders were at the scene immediately, resuscitation attempts failed to revive the boy.

Teachers and students at the child’s school were badly traumatized by the incident, which came only a day after a six year old girl was struck and killed by a mini-bus in the northern Jerusalem neighborhood of Shuafat. The driver of the mini-bus was arrested and questioned. The investigation is continuing in Kibbutz Kfar Menachem.
