The White House announced Monday afternoon that the head of the U.S. Secret Service agency, director Randolph “Tex” Alles, is leaving his post.

The announcement came less than 24 hours after the abrupt announcement that the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen, was resigning.

Alles, a retired Marine Corps general, “has done a great job at the agency,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement, but did not explain further.

James M. Murray, a career Secret Service member, will succeed Alles in the post beginning in May.
