White Night 2016

In July 2003, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed the “White City of Tel Aviv,” with its delicate, urban, historic and unique texture, as a cultural world legacy site, seeing as downtown Tel Avid contains the world’s largest collection of buildings designed in the Bauhaus style — a collection of more than 4,000 Bauhaus buildings built in the 1930s by German Jewish architects who made Aliyah after the Nazis’ rise to power. Their European architecture had to be adapted to suit the extremes of the Mediterranean and desert climate. White and light colors reflected the heat — hence the name.

Since receiving the title, every year the city of Tel Aviv celebrates the proclamation with a series of White Night events that connect to Tel Aviv’s DNA of a Nonstop City. The events take place all around the city — from cultural centers through museums, bars, and open spaces. The events and performances are open to the public, most are free of charge, and everyone is welcome!
