Tiberias

It’s going to be a long night in the city of Tiberias, folks.

Tiberias Mayor Ron Kobi has been informed that he’s out of a job, but he’s not willing to go quietly. In fact, he’s not willing to go at all.

Provocative Tiberias Mayor Fired

Kobi barricaded himself in his office on Monday night, and refused to come out, despite having received notice from the Interior Ministry that he is about to be fired, and will no longer be authorized to run the city’s affairs.

The news follows Kobi’s inability to pass a budget for his city, even with the extension he was provided by the Interior Ministry. The extension expired on September 30, 2019.

Outside the municipality, police cars could be seen pulling up to his office, and it was not yet clear what would happen next.

For at least part of the evening, Kobi was livestreaming from the office with a few supporters in the room. Kobi described himself as a successful mayor, blamed everything on Netanyahu, said it was irrelevant that there hasn’t been a single council meeting, and declared that he doesn’t hate religion, he just hates religious people.

He plans to go to the Supreme Court to fight the decision to oust him.
