Iran’s chief of intelligence and his second-in-command were both eliminated Sunday in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran.

IRGC Intelligence chief Mohammad Kazemi and his deputy, Hassan Mohaqiq, were buried under the rubble of the IRGC Intelligence Organization building following the airstrike.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the assassination in an interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier late Sunday afternoon. (Netanyahu also confirmed that Iran has tried twice to assassinate President Donald Trump.)

Also on Sunday, the Israeli Air Force attacked an Iranian aerial refueling aircraft at Mashhad Airport in eastern Iran, which is some 2,300 kilometers (1,400 miles) from Israeli territory.

The feat marked the longest-range strike carried out since the start of Operation Rising Lion, as the Israeli Air Force works to establish aerial superiority over Iranian airspace.

Other Israeli airstrikes targeted the headquarters of the Iranian Atomic Organization in Tehran, oil and gas fields in the southern Iranian city of Ahvaz, and dozens of surface-to-surface missiles and launch sites in western Iran.

In response to the escalating military activity, Russia has begun evacuating its citizens from Tehran and elsewhere in the country.
