Israeli warplanes have begun striking the area of Tehran where Khamenei and his family are sheltering in a bunker, according to multiple reports.
Explosions were heard in the northeastern Tehran neighborhood of Lavizan, where Khamenei’s bunker is located, the British Daily Mail reported.
Israeli forces also bombed the building in eastern Tehran that houses the Iranian Defense Ministry.
“The tornado continues to hit Tehran,” Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement Wednesday, adding that Israeli warplanes “have now destroyed the Iranian regime’s internal security headquarters – the Iranian dictator’s central repressive arm.
“As we promised – we will continue to damage symbols of power and strike the ayatollahs’ regime everywhere,” Katz pledged.
The defense minister issued a separate announcement late Wednesday saying Israel’s Home Front Command will relax some of the public security restrictions in place since the start of Operation Rising Lion to help the economy get back on track.
“While we continue fighting Iran to eliminate threats, we will reopen the economy, ease public restrictions, and restore Israel’s productivity and security,” Katz said.
The decision follows a significant reduction in Iranian missile fire: Only one limited barrage of missiles was fired from Iran at Israel from midnight Tuesday-Wednesday to 7 pm, along with sporadic suicide drone attacks that were intercepted by Israeli forces.
