Security personnel were summoned by local officials to a site in the Lachish Regional Council district on Tuesday, where an incendiary terror balloon had landed, and was discovered by a local resident.

An Israel Police sapper examined the improvised explosive device attached to the balloon and confirmed it was, indeed, an IED. The bomb squad subsequently neutralized the device.

It’s not clear whether the balloon was launched across the southern border by Gaza terrorists, or whether it originated on the Israel side of the border.

“We reiterate once again, in the event where a suspicious object, including a kite or and balloon, is found – either by an adult or a child – do not touch it,” Israel Police said in a statement. “Call the police and keep curious people away from it until the officers arrive.”
