The Nice Lady Who Destroyed Obama

Little Barack Hussein Obama with his Kenyan Dad. Why did he have to lie?

Little Barack Hussein Obama with his Kenyan Dad. Why did he have to lie?

Miriam Goderich – remember that name, it will go down in history as the woman who brought down a president. But poor Miriam never did anything bad, in fact, what she did happened decades ago and now it could topple President Barack Hussein Obama.

I wish I knew for sure if Miriam Goderich was Jewish. Can you imagine? Two Jewish women bringing down two presidents, ten years apart, give or take?

Unless you’ve been too busy painting your cave and chasing after mastodons this week, you’ve probably heard Breitbart News has obtained a promotional booklet produced in 1991 by Barack Obama’s then-literary agency, Acton & Dystel, which touts Obama as “born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii.”

The booklet, which was distributed to “business colleagues” in the publishing industry, includes a brief biography of Obama among the biographies of eighty-nine other authors represented by Acton & Dystel.

The full text reads:

“Barack Obama, the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii. The son of an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister, he attended Columbia University and worked as a financial journalist and editor for Business International Corporation. He served as project coordinator in Harlem for the New York Public Interest Research Group, and was Executive Director of the Developing Communities Project in Chicago’s South Side. His commitment to social and racial issues will be evident in his first book, Journeys in Black and White.”

Miriam Goderich worked for Acton & Dystel, and was responsible for the above copy (well written, actually). On Thursday she was running around, telling anyone who would care to listen, that the 20-year-old description was “a simple mistake and nothing more.”

Goderich is now a partner at the Dystel & Goderich.

Political Wire published her desperate plea for the world to push this genie back into the bottle (or tea pot, come to think of it) where it belonged:

“You’re undoubtedly aware of the brouhaha stirred up by Breitbart about the erroneous statement in a client list Acton & Dystel published in 1991 (for circulation within the publishing industry only) that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. This was nothing more than a fact checking error by me – an agency assistant at the time. There was never any information given to us by Obama in any of his correspondence or other communications suggesting in any way that he was born in Kenya and not Hawaii. I hope you can communicate to your readers that this was a simple mistake and nothing more.”

Yes, of course, makes perfect sense: the kid is black, recently graduated from Harvard, very gifted – must have been born in Kenya.

But being born in Kenya was not the part that could doom President Obama’s chances to be reelected. And I realize I’m sounding a bit Tea Partyish here – I assure you I’m not, I’m still a registered Democrat and proud of it (well, maybe not Proud, but certainly kind of ok). Anyway, the reason Obama could fall now is the lie.

If it turns out – as it probably has, now – that Barack Obama lied to all of us about having been born in Kenya, we should not forgive him. Not because he’s a liar but because he’s stupid. Stupid enough to believe you can fool all the people all the time. Certainly not in the You Tube and Facebook era.

Honest Abe Lincoln knew better than that, and he didn’t even have email.

  1. If the Jewish Press is to be taken seriously you can't print this

  2. Remember the phrase: “read my lips” – for no truth comes out of them….

  3. Anonymous says:

Why would Jews vote Democrat? This has stumped me for years. Such a smart race, such a stupid choice.

  4. David Reich says:

Agreed. Even Breitbart straight-up states that they believe that Obama was born in Hawaii. This article is very amateur and immature. Doesn't look too good for the JP, and this is coming from a Conservative.

  5. Jason Harms says:

Hmmm…I don't know now! Yori makes a good point with this "Yes, of course, makes perfect sense: the kid is black, recently graduated from Harvard, very gifted – must have been born in Kenya." Seems kind of odd to make a mistake about the exact thing people in some corners have been talking about for the last 4 years. Black kid goes to Harvard – must be Kenyan! Some "mistake"!

  6. Eli Rohn says:

What are the odds of picking Kenya in 1991 out of all African states? The bio writer (Miriam Goderich) must have been very lucky in her choice, wasn't she?
Some of the "Jews-by-Name" who commented here remind me of my great grandfather's father: he too did not believe the facts even when the Synagogue (not "temple") in Hamburg burned down. There's a saying here in Israel – "suckers don't die, they're replaced." HE HE HE… get your head out of the sand, dudes, it's too dark to see clearly there…

  7. Eran Spiro says:

This is not a Jewish Press! You are bigots who believe in very nonsense about Obama.

  8. Addy O Fattal says:

How embarrassing to read such a trashy' bigoted and unsubstantiated story in a Jewish publication, Did you bother to read the corrections that were published later?

  9. I never did and never will vote for obama… but the truth is… if his mother was an american citizen, which she was….. he could have been born anywhere in the world… and he is still an american citizen…. so none of this 'born elsewhere' has any validity…. we need to get him out on something else….

  10. Eli Rohn says:

Can YOU substantiate your claims? Nada. A copy of the original booklet has been presented to the public. Why is this "bigoted"? Can't one bring facts-based information about a (half) black person without being called names? Why do you PROTECT Obama so much? What has he done that he deserves intelligent folks like you turn off their funtioning brain when it comes to BHO?

  11. Eli Rohn says:

In my opinion, your blind Liberalism amounts to a mental disorder, my dear.

  12. Eli Rohn says:

David Reich you ain't no conservative.

  13. Eli Rohn says:

An original copy of said book has been produced and on display, but you prefer to ignore the facts and kill the messenger. In my opinion, your blind Liberalism amounts to a mental disorder.

  14. Addy O Fattal says:

First and last ,after you read my post, don't bother responding to me . i have no interest talking to right wing, intolerant bigot.http://www.mediaite.com/online/vetting-the-bed-breitbart-coms-kenya-born-obama-o-bombshell-blows-up/

  15. Yori Yanover says:

Actually, I voted for Obama in 2008, and I'm a registered Democrat. But this year I will stay home. I can't bring myself to vote for Romney, but Obama has lost my vote. And I was choked with tears back in 2008 when he won.

I feel that he betrayed me and sided with Wall Street. He could have added 2 million jobs with those billions he gave the bankers. And worse than he betrayed me, he betrayed the poor folks who really believed he would make a difference.

  16. Yori Yanover says:

It is conceivable that, since Miriam knew Obama had a Kenyan father, she made him too a Kenyan, without fact checking. But I agree it don't look so good for POTUS.

  17. Yori Yanover says:

I believe the entire item here was about the corrections. And, frankly, they don't seem to be all that corrective.

  18. Eli Rohn says:

I loved your answer. A true Liberal indeed – free speech for all (and for me) as long as I sing with your choir. Stalin is proud of you!

  19. Eli Rohn says:

I agree with you Yori – Barak's fiscal policies have been a disaster to the USA. BTW, did you know that "Barak" in Arabic is spelled almost the same way as Mubarak? مبارك Not that I care, but you Americans voted for a guy who has little in common with the USA – in culture, in name, in values, you name it. You deserve him, and you'll probably get him for four more years so he'll be able to "be more flexible" as he said to Commrad Putin through his bell-boy Medvedev. Now go and read Trickle Up Poverty – I head it's a best seller. Enjoy.

  20. Yori Yanover says:

The alternative was a McCain-Palin ticket. Too silly even for me.

  21. Some of you guys are correct now that things have calmed let's give the republicans another chance to have another financial meltdown Once romney kills America's finances , he and his mormon buddies can concentrate on baptizing all the dead jews they can find.

  22. Steve Rose says:

Kills America's Finances? What's left after Obama?

  23. It seems to me we're in general much better than when he started . The markets are ahead of when he came in. The private has more jobs then when he started. Government jobs are doen about 700-800k .I'm sure you like less government jobs. Here's a question i ask all the time.SPECIFICALLY wha's the republican alternative plan. Then these peple evaporate into thin air no response. Watch goodbye steve rose.

  24. Eli Rohn says:

Since we're not talking about a controlled experiment with two groups, nulling McCain a-priory is silly. What you ("the People") is a communist in the white house, softly (sometimes not so softly) implementing plans conceived long time ago by folks such as Walter Benjamin, Theodor Adorno, Antonio Gramsci and Jürgen Habermas. Their world view is entirely opposite to the constitution and to US basic values. McCain, a strange choice of the Republicans for candidate, does not have a world view that contradicts that of the US. Therefore, by choosing the unknown dude from Chicago, whose biography keeps shape-shifting, you have chosen unwisely. That's because he hates America as a capitalist super power, and is doing its best to morph it into Greece of North America. He's on track allright: the numbeer of people feeding from the punlic coffers has neven been as great. 15M folks on food stamps, for example. You must love paying for it, right?
