Israeli forces uncover a tunnel shaft in northern Gaza.

A 1.2-mile-long Hamas terror tunnel was located and destroyed this week by soldiers from the Northern Gaza Brigade under the command of the 252nd Division.

As part of the operation, the troops eliminated dozens of terrorists and destroyed “significant” terrorist infrastructure, the IDF said.

“Collaborating with Yahalom soldiers, they located and dismantled a strategic underground terrorist route approximately two kilometers long in the northern Gaza Strip,” the IDF added.

During the operation, the troops located several tunnel shafts, explosive devices, launchers, and additional weapons belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization, including rockets, grenades, and grenade launchers.

Operation Gideon’s Chariots was officially launched on Friday with massive attacks on Gaza from the air, sea and land. More than 150 terrorists were eliminated in the first 24 hours of the offensive.

The IDF is conducting extensive strikes and mobilizing troops “to achieve operational control” in Gaza.

The moves come as the IDF expands the offensive to fulfill the goals of the war: releasing the hostages, dismantling the Hamas terrorist organization and ensuring that Gaza never again poses a threat to the Jewish State.
