Rabbi Mike Feuer, educational director of Beit Midrash Sulam Yaakov, joins Yishai to discuss ‘Va’etchanan,’ this week’s Torah portion.

Yishai reflects on an extremely difficult experience he had yesterday — enduring verbal abuse and humiliation, as he attempted to visit the Temple Mount.

Then, in the light of the treatment of Jews at Judaism’s holiest site, the demolitions at Beit El and the Gay Pride March, Yishai discusses with Rabbi Feuer the repetition in “Va’etchanan” of the 10 Commandments and the iconic phrases that crop up throughout the portion, including the line that embodies the core principals of Judaism — the “Shema.” The two also consider the greatest struggles facing modern-day Israel and 21st-century Jewry.

  1. when you conflate narrow-minded interpretations of chumash with a "we're just victims" world view of history, politics, and current events, you wind up with an echo chmaber that can speak only to the rabbi's narrow circle of amei-haaretz

  2. It’s not ‘the occupation’, as cause of this mournful event of child killing, it’s the poverty and the poverty strategy of the last 20+ years, which give’s Bibi’s tears somewhat less of salt, per say..also,…..given that this grievous incident is the second such atrocity committed by Jewish Orthodoxy in recent days and weeks, to match other Orthodoxy’s acts of terror, and mimicking, disgracefully, the War Crime of ‘child soldiering’ taking place in the entire Middle East locale’ …..Shabot Shalom….

  3. It’s Time to Vote!….. Everyone who believes that loving and ‘supporting’ Israel is to embellish the ‘Third World’ as an immediate geographic neighbor…….. and the strategy is sustainable?, as a buffer to violent anti-West, anti-Jew militancy, stand up and say ‘I’…………(and no more goddamn Uncle Ralph jokes dude……I already heard them all…)….
