The Cave of the Patriarchs is the burial site of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rivka, Leah, Adam and Eve, in Hebron. It is sacred to Jews and also to Muslims, who revere Abraham as a prophet and father of Ishmael.

Israeli security personnel guard the holy site at various checkpoints around the area as well as at the entrances to the tomb, and routinely search the bags of everyone who enter. On numerous occasions, IDF soldiers and Border Guard Police officers have prevented Arab terrorist attacks due to their discoveries of weapons and explosives during such searches.
