President Donald Trump has announced his choice of U.S. Ambassador to Canada Kelly Knight Craft as the next American Ambassador to the United Nations.

Trump said in a pair of tweets on Saturday, “I am pleased to announce that Kelly Knight Craft, our current Ambassador to Canada, is being nominated to be United States Ambassador to the United Nations.

“Kelly has done an outstanding job representing our Nation and I have no doubt that, under her leadership, our Country will be represented at the highest level. Congratulations to Kelly and her entire family!”

The ambassador served as a delegate to the UN General Assembly during the administration of President George W. Bush. In her current role, she has helped facilitate the U.S. – Mexico – Canada trade agreement, to replace NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement.)

Her selection is supported by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, National Security Adviser John Bolton and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, according to the New York Post.
