Explosive balloons near Gaza fence

An Israeli Bedouin shepherd was slightly injured Sunday from an explosive that was carried by a cluster of balloons in the Eshkol Regional Council near the Gaza Strip. The injured man was treated on the spot.

This was the first Israeli casualty since the balloon terror began about a year ago. The balloons landed in the area of Kibbutz Be’eri. The shepherd left his herd to examine the colorful cluster of balloons and picked up the explosive device to which it was connected.

Earlier, an incendiary balloon landed in the area of Moshav Eshbol and a fire broke out there.

Last week, night riots were resumed along the fence, in which explosive charges were thrown into Israeli territory. One such charge last night triggered a regional red alert.

The Arabs reported one Gaza rioter was killed by IDF gunfire.

Last Friday, nearly a year after the fence riots had begun, some 9,500 Arabs took part in disturbances at the fence. They threw stones and explosive charges at IDF soldiers. The Gaza health ministry reported two dead and dozens wounded in those riots.
