Israel has decided to build barriers around towns near the northern border with Lebanon as a means of preventing infiltration from across the border.

According to a report published by The Jerusalem Post, former Counter Terrorism Bureau director, IDF Brigadier-General (ret.) Nitzan Nuriel says construction of the barriers is set to begin next month.

Tensions between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization have been rising for some time.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman told reporters while at the Knesset on Monday that Israel will not allow Hezbollah to launch any attack on the Jewish State from Syrian territory.

But Nuriel says once the Lebanese-based group sees barriers going up to protect Israeli towns across the border, Hezbollah secretary-general Hassan Nasrallah might indeed decide to launch an attack from Lebanon before construction can be completed.

The new barriers are specifically designed to block tunnels and other forms of terrorist infiltration. Nuriel warns that if Hezbollah attempts an attack before the barriers have gone up, that effort could result in the start of a third Lebanon war.
