President Approves Bibi's 2-Week Extension Request

President Rivlin on Monday acceded to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s request for an additional two weeks to form a government.

President Reuven (Ruvi) Rivlin met today, Monday 13 May / 8 Iyar, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at Beit HaNasi. At the end of the meeting, the president acceded to the prime minister’s request and granted him a further two weeks to form a government.

President Rivlin: “After you presented the need for additional time to complete forming a government, and according to clause 8 of Basic Law: The Government, I hereby extend the time allocated to form a government by fourteen days.”

According to Basic Law: The Government the prime minister was allocated 28 days to form the government. The president can grant an extension to this period of up to 14 additional days.
