Scene of Kiryat Arba Terror Attack. Oct. 29, 2022

A terrorist opened fire near the neighborhood of MK Itamar Ben-Gvir in Givat Avot, Kiryat Arba, on Saturday night just before 9 PM. At least four people have been wounded, two are in serious condition. A helicopter has evacuated some of the wounded. They have been taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center and Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital in Jerusalem. The attack happened near the Kiryat Arba guardpost on the road between Kiryat Arba and Hebron. Update: released for publication: The 60-year-old wounded man has died in the hospital.

Civilian security forces returned fire in a shootout. The terrorist has been reported killed by the Ravshatz (security chief) who ran over the terrorist. An off-duty IDF officer from Golani who lives in the area then confirmed the kill. Security forces are searching for possible additional terrorists.

According to Hillel Bitton Rosen, a father and son were in a grocery store when the terrorists opened fire on them. Two Israelis rushed to help them and were lightly injured. The Ravshatz (security chief) killed the terrorist. An Arab man was also wounded in the attack and evacuated to a PA hospital.

Hadassah hospital reports they are treating a 60-year-old man in critical condition. A 48-year-old man who was lightly wounded, and a 19-year-old man who was lightly wounded. Update: the 60-year-old man has died.

Share Tzedek Medical Center reports they are operating on a 50-year-old man. He is unconcious, on a respirator and in serious but stable condition.

People have been asked to pray for Ofer Ben Tovah.

According to an initial tweet by Ben Gvir, it was thought that the shooting had been directed as his home. Ben-Gvir’s family and residents of Kiryat Arba have been told to not leave their home.

Devorah Aviad, a United Hatzalah paramedic who was at the scene, relayed: “When I arrived at the scene I found several wounded with various degrees of injuries. Together with other medical personnel, we treated all of the injured, who were then transported to the hospital for further treatment.”

Mayor of the Kiryat Arba Hebron Council Eliyahu Liebman says this evening: “Five months ago, the Minister of Defense [Benny Gantz] decided to open the Ashmurat checkpoint, which had been closed to Palestinian movement for 20 years. We warned in real time that the opening of the checkpoint could lead to terrorist attacks, and unfortunately, as mentioned, this fear came true.”

Meanwhile, Arabs in Hebron are celebrating the terror attack.
