The parents of 21-year old Shira and her husband Amichai, who were injured in a drive-by shooting attack Sunday night, speak to media at Shaare Zedek hospital, where Shira and Amichai are being treated.

The young mother-to-be hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit in Shaare Zedek Medical Center who was shot by Palestinian Authority terrorists as she stood with her husband and other Israelis at a bus stop Sunday night, has regained consciousness, her parents told reporters late Monday in a news conference at the hospital.

Her father, Chaim Silverstein, said, “We thank the Almighty that our son-in-law Amichai is recovering and in relatively stable condition.

It has been a miracle, that even though he was shot with three bullets [in the legs], he’s still in good condition.

Our daughter Shira is still in the Intensive Care Unit. Her condition is steadily improving but still is serious. We were able to enter for a few minutes,” — her father smiled — “and she opened an eye, an eye and a half, with all the tubes in and out of her, and shed a tear when she saw us.

“Then we had to leave, because from the excitement, her pulse rose too high,” her father added.

“The situation is improving. . . we are praying, and we thank all of the People of Israel, people the world over, who have contacted us and said they are praying for Shira and for Amichai and for the baby,” he said.

“She opened her eyes and asked for her mother . . . and then we ran. We were very excited to see her even though her health is not so good, but there’s nothing like seeing our daughter open her eyes and talking to her eyes — because her mouth is full of tubes.”

The family says “prayers are needed” for the baby, who was delivered by Casaerean section at 30 weeks’ gestation shortly after their daughter was brought into the hospital.

The condition of the baby, who was immediately taken to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, reportedly began to deteriorate later in the day on Monday. The baby’s condition is not stable.

The public is asked to please pray for “Tinok ben Shira Yael” and to continue prayers for Shira Yael bat Liora Sara, and for Amichai Yishai ben Feiga Gitel Galila.
