Messianic ‘Blood Moon’ Rising on Passover Seder Night

The prophecy in Joel, like most prophecies, is surreal, beautiful, and open to many interpretations.

There will be a string of four "blood moons" in the year 5775, and one of them will shine over the Passover seder. Whenever this happened in the past, enormous events took place in Jewish history.

It starts with the Book of Joel, Chapter 3:3-4: “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come.”

The verse about the sun turning dark and the moon turning to blood, is at the center of a new, hot, Christian bestseller titled “Four Blood Moons,” by Pastor John Hagee. It is based on a discovery by Pastor Mark Biltz, who runs a “Hebrew roots” ministry in Tacoma, Washington: Red Moons.

Biltz’s website declares: “We do not want to convert Jews to Christianity or Christians to Judaism,” which works for me. He based his observation on the verse in Genesis 1:14: “And God said, Let there be lights in the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.”

God originally plans to use the heavenly lights as signs, and the prophet Joel foretells that a blood moon would mark the day of the Lord – then it stands to reason that some dramatic stuff should be taking place when a blood moon is up in the sky.

The science of the “blood moon” phenomenon is fairly simple. It is created by a partial lunar eclipse. When the Earth’s shadow covers the moon completely, we get a total eclipse. A partial lunar eclipse happens wen the Earth’s shadow covers the moon only partially. The earth atmosphere bends light around its edge, and scatters out shorter-wavelength light (green through violet), leaving longer-wavelength light (red, orange, and yellow) in the Earth’s shadow. This is also why sunsets and sunrises generally appear red.

As is the case with most miraculous events that can be explained scientifically, the miracle is not in the natural phenomenon, but rather in its timing. So the Book of Joel describes solar eclipse, followed by a partial lunar eclipse, as precursors of the Day of the Lord.

The prophecy in Joel, like most prophecies, is surreal, beautiful, and open to many interpretations. But we can take away from it the notion of a blood moon as a sign, and check out the calendar for the next bunch of partial lunar eclipses.

That’s what Pastor Biltz did, he looked at NASA’s tables for solar and lunar eclipses and found a string of lunar and solar eclipses happening in 2014 and 2015 and then nothing like it for the rest of the 21st century. In 2015 there will be two solar and lunar eclipses two weeks apart (on the new moon and full moon) one in the spring and one in the fall. This could possibly produce four blood moon eclipses in a row, which is definitely something to write home about.

OK, now hold on to your seats, please: we’ve had the Tetrad phenomenon (a string of four moons partially or completely eclipsed,) twice in the last century, both times on the night of the Passover seder: in 5710 (1949-50) and in 5728 (1967-68).

The year 5710 came right after the establishment of the State of Israel.

The year 5728 came right after the liberation of Jerusalem.

The next string of four blood moons is coming Passover seder night, 5775 (2014-15) – a year from this Pesach.

Oh, and the last time this event had taken place before the 20th century was in 5654. That’s 1493-94 to you and me, one year after the exile from Spain.

Now the much better connected Pastor Hagee has picked up Biltz’s notions and authored a very popular book about the blood moons and what they mean – of course, the second coming of you know who.

No, Virginia, we don’t believe in this stuff, we really don’t follow anything up in the heavens except our Father in Heaven, but you have to admit, this is pretty curious.

It’s also interesting to note that those moon strings each appeared only after the miraculous events, like a kind of confirmation on the part of God: I did this. Which means the coming year or so should be very eventful.

Like you didn’t know this without the moon…

The Pastors have made a good spot from the Astronomical tables. They'll make a tidy sum on the book, and when the lunar eclipses pass and you-know-who does not appear, one doubts if they will be offering refunds.

Actually a TOTAL lunar eclipse appears entirely red.  (It can never appear black because the entire circumference of Earth’s atmosphere bends plenty of red light in Moon’s direction.)  A partial lunar eclipse may have some red along its darkest part, but more likely the part that is more brightly illuminated will cause a perceptual wash-out of any red.  It is very common during “eclipse” seasons, which can occur once or twice per year (some years have none), for a solar eclipse to be followed by a lunar eclipse and then a solar eclipse, or for a lunar eclipse to be followed by a solar eclipse and then a lunar eclipse.  Although a lunar eclipse can be seen by the entire half of Earth that is experiencing night, the solar eclipse can only be seen along a very narrow path on the daytime side of Earth, depending on where Moon’s much smaller shadow touches down on Earth’s surface.  A total solar eclipse crossing Israel and a nearby total lunar eclipse that is visible from Israel might be of more interest viz-a-viz biblical references.  I find it rather far-fetched, however, to interpret the words quoted from Yoel as referring to eclipses in any way.

Irv BrombergPonder it Four, blood moons on Jewish Feast days within two years in Israel is very rare
and has only occurred seven times since the time of Yeshua (Jesus).
There are now four blood moons scheduled to appear in 2014-2015 and then
there will NOT be any for the next 100 years.Every time a blood moon pattern has appeared on Jewish feast days a big event affects the nation of Israel. the most recent three tetrads of blood moons which fell on Biblical feasts occurred in the period from:1493-94
(shortly after Jews persecuted and evicted from Spain in 1492 and
Columbus (Jew) sailed to New World to find them a new home.
Columbus returned to America in 1493 with 1,500 men and 17 ships);1949-50 (after state of Israel for repatriating Jews was created in May 1948 in one day); and1967-68 (Jews capture Jerusalem in June 1967, the City of God, in a supernatural victory during the “Six Day War”).CHECK  WITH NASA

  10. The pillars of smoke could be a reference to nuclear war which would kick up dust and pollutants into the atmosphere and thus potentially cause a blood moon. I pray for peace but all too often what takes place is war. In the middle east we have wars and rumors of wars and sometimes rumors of a new peace deal on an almost weekly basis. In addition the killing of Christians has been like wild fires in the middle east. Iran claims they will not build the bomb but continue to spin their centrifuges. Current intelligence seems uncertain of when Iran could get the bomb and Israel cannot afford to gamble with this. Another question is rather or not the Russian/Syrian agreement will do the trick in Syria? Stay tuned. In July of 2012 I wrote a small book that speaks of salvation and some of what the Bible says will happen in the end times as well as what will happen during the period known as the seven (360 day) year tribulation and other soon to take place events. I don’t accept donations and it’s free. It’s about 6 or 7 pages, so it’s a short read. Intersperses within those dates are two solar eclipses at 1) Rosh Chodesh Nissan (March 20th 2015) and 2) Rosh Hashanah Sept 13th 2015). Yaffah Batya in Jerusalem

  30. Mat Rooker says:

Had a dream about blood moons last night, so I looked it up….

  31. Jim Blekfeld says:

I believe that Pastor Hagee is not using this to predict the coming of the Lord. He agrees that the coming of the Lord is immenent. But he does say that this points to something significant happening in relation to Israel. He says it could even be that the Gog and Magog war could happen as elaborated on in Ezikiel 38. It is also interesting to note in Jonathan Cahn's video the Isaiah 9:10 Judgement the the fall of the the stock market in America happened in 2001 on the 29th day of Elul on the Hebrew callendar and that the 2008 stock market crash occurred on the 29th day of Elul in 2008. After 7 years the 29th day of Elul will happen on September 13, 2015 and the next day September 14 will be the beginning of the Jewish new year. There are a lot of things that are pointing to the soon rapture of the church. No one is setting dates. But the Lord did say when we see these signs begin to happen then we are to look up for our redemption draweth nigh. The real message in all this is "Be Ready" . If you have not received Jesus as Lord and savior in accordance with Romans 10:9 and on. If you have not received Jesus Chris as Lord and Savior when he comes you will go into the Tribulation. I wouldn't want to gamble and not be ready. So any of you that read thiis, I would encourage to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord today and be born again like Jesus said in John 3:3

  32. Amen Jim, We are told that God the Father only knows the day and hour, so I don't bother with trying to pin down dates. I like you however do see the prophecies and events and conclude that the rapture is at hand. For those of us who believe in Jesus and know about the rapture know that it will be in secret, while the day of the lord is the tribulation period which will end with the second coming of Jesus to the "ground" of the Earth with the saints. Paul points out that there will first be a world wide rejection of God before the tribulation period, so that points to the rapture taking us out prior to the tribulation. If Christians were here they would never reject Jesus Christ. Paul also said that the restrainer would be taken away before the anti-Christ would be revealed. The Christians would never have the Holy Spirit(restrainer) removed from them. That also points out to us being raptured at that time.

  34. People get ready…..

  35. Hagee preaches Jesus. He doesn't deny the Father and speaks with scripture. Jesus said that the false prophets will deny Him. If Hagee was a false prophet he would steer clear of the Bible and the name of Jesus. Sorry buddy but he speaks in Jesus' name often. And if you listened to Hagee long enough or read his books you would see that he speaks of salvation as it says in Roman 10:9-10.

God said we won't know the day or hour BUT we can know the season. Read Matt 24 where Jesus tells of the things that are happening in the world and "then the end will come". God doesn't want us in the dark.

The Pastor that talked about the 12/12/12 thing has nothing to do with Hagee so to lump them together is wrong.

  36. To those of you that assume Hagee says the blood moons refer to Jesus' return – have you read the book? Listened to his interview? If you had, you would know that he said no such thing. He said that something big is going to happen. Something major is going to change. He never said it was for sure the coming of the Lord. Gesh, I wish people would get their facts straight before making such silly comments.

  38. The Christians should study and ponder it, specially the scripture references.

  39. John Purdy says:

Biltz’s website declares: “We do not want to convert Jews to Christianity or Christians to Judaism,” which works for me.

The problem that Blitz doesn't recognize is that Christianity is Judaism while Jews still practice "old" Judaism. Judaism has always allow the adoption of other people into faith, but under Christ that adoption has been bought and paid for by His blood. Thus making animal sacrifices a thing of the past.

  40. Clara Tumlin says:

Us Christians, most of us anyway do and have pondered it Ronald. We have a great teaching on the The Four Blood Moons.

  41. Theresa Moss says:

Would these rich preachers still be preaching if all that money was gone and they had to preach without it? You be the judge!

  42. Gene Reed says:

Anything John Hagee believes or teaches you can be sure is a load of crap.

  43. Gene Reed says:

Jacki Swerbensky If you had listened to Hagee for any period of time you would know that Hagee does not believe that jews are under the same covenant as gentiles. This is clearly heresy by any definition.Hagee is a false teacher.

  44. it's Joel 2:30-31 not Joel 3: 3-4

  45. Michael here is your problem…. Hagee does not predict the blood moons… NASA is…..

  46. I'm not saying I am a Hagee fan…. Just that you are throwing harsh terms at someone. History does show significant things have happened during the Times of the blood moons

Amen sister….. I listen to Pastor John Hagee ever day and also Beltzs.. They r both good Pastor… John Hagee , explain the truth and nothing else… People need to listen to what he is saying… Some will not cuz they don't like his teaching… I also listen to Pastor Perry Stone Ministries… He talks about the same thing that going to happen about the four blood moon..

  49. Connie Bacon says:

I agree with Gene Reed, I dont listen to a word John Hagee teaches. However, many others are teaching about the blood moon events. Hagee is just writing a book.

  50. Gail Richards says:

  51. Gail Richards says:

Amen sister, thats confirmation, people need to listen to preachers, then they need to read the scriptures for themselves, and ask God for revelation and wisdom!

  52. Thank you for the info. its verry helpful for my research. it's better to believe than to caught unprepared.

JOHN HAGEE does not preach his thoughts he has a verse for everything he says.He just explains it to you and you should thank him for that everyday.Watch him preach and you would know that.He did not say when the end would be just told what the BIBLE said and the 4 blood moons was nsa predictions.

Are you ready to meet the Lord if it is the day of the Lord? If you look around the world, there are so many signs that we are living in the end times,- GET READY!

  57. It is very confusing but different bibles are divided into verses and sometimes chapters and books differently. In the Hebrew Bible Chapter Joel, the verse quoted above is http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt1403.htm

  58. Your comments are assuming and judgmental and I don't think in line with how Jesus would reply.

You should take note that 1st your quotes are in English but there was long and complex process how you English Bible got from the 4 languages of the Christian Bible got translated, all through first to Greek, then to Latin and then through German and then to English.

2nd, the different Judeo-Christian religions, movements, sects and denominations have different translation, interpretations.
