Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement expressing his condolences on Tuesday that First Lady Nechama Rivlin, z’l, “fought heroically” while struggling to survive the pulmonary fibrosis that eventually took her life.

The prime minister expressed condolences Tuesday on behalf of the nation on the passing of Mrs. Rivlin, 73, from medical complications several months after undergoing a lung transplant to address the illness.

“Together with all the citizens of Israel, my wife Sara and I express deep sorrow over the passing of Nechama Rivlin, the wife of President Reuven Rivlin,” Netanyahu said in a statement.

“We all prayed for her recovery during the recent period in which she fought for her life heroically and with strength of spirit,” he said. “We send our deepest heartfelt condolences to the President and all members of his family. May her memory be blessed.”
