Tens of thousands of Jewish worshipers streamed to the Tomb of the Biblical Matriarch Rachel on the southern outskirts of Jerusalem near Bethlehem on Monday evening to mark the anniversary of her death “by the side of the road.”

The passing of Rachel is marked on the 11th day in the Hebrew month of Heshvan on the Jewish calendar.

Israeli security forces were on hand to guard the safety of those who came to pray at the holy site.
