Gazans clash with Israeli security forces (unseen) near the border, in the southern Gaza Strip, October 2018

A 17-year-old Gaza rioter died Tuesday night after being shot in the head while attacking Israeli soldiers at the border with Israel.

Hundreds of Gazans stormed the border, throwing burning tires, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), live grenades, rocks and Molotov cocktails at Israeli military forces who were stationed along the security fence next to southern Gaza, near Deir al-Balah.

The teenager who was shot, identified by the Gaza Health Ministry as Muntaser al-Baz, was targeted while throwing a bomb at a soldier at the time he was hit, according to the IDF. He died at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Five other rioters were also hit by live fire, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

According to the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit, Israeli forces used standard riot control measures, as well as live fire “according to the rules of engagement.”
