Ziv died and a second soldier was seriously wounded when a rocket fired by Hezbollah from Lebanon hit an IDF position near the northern Israeli community of Shtula.

The second soldier is hospitalized in serious condition.

Hezbollah fired a barrage of some 20 missiles on Friday morning at Israeli communities along the northern border with Lebanon.

Israeli artillery forces responded to the attack by shelling the rocket launcher sites.

IDF Spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari has warned repeatedly, most recently on Thursday night, that Hezbollah is endangering the future of Lebanon.

“Hezbollah has turned southern Lebanon into a combat zone and continues to endanger the future of the entire state of Lebanon for Hamas and Iran,” he warned.
