The Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet announced Saturday in a joint statement that Hamas leader Hassam Atrash has been eliminated.

Atrash, a key weapons smuggler for the terror organization, was killed in the southern Gaza city of Rafah by an Israeli fighter jet in a targeted assassination.

The terrorist official smuggled weapons from various countries around the world, bringing the ordnance to Gaza and to terrorists in the Palestinian Authority-controlled areas of Judea and Samaria.

Atrash was also responsible for the trade, production and equipping of the Al-Qassam military wing of Hamas.
