On Saturday evening, the IDF destroyed a terror attack tunnel dug by the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization. The tunnel reached into Israeli territory from the southern Gaza Strip. According to IDF Spokesperson Brigadier General Ronen Manelis the tunnel had been under technological surveillance until its destruction today by IDF fighter planes.
The tunnel, which was more than 60 feet deep, could be accessed from several entry points in the Gaza Strip, and was intended to facilitate a terror attack inside Israeli territory.
“This is a fence-crossing tunnel in which a great deal of resources have been invested,” Manelis noted, adding that the tunnel’s digging had been accelerated in recent weeks in order to prepare it for carrying out an attack.”
