Georgian authorities have launched a criminal investigation in the murder of an Israeli citizen in the capital Tbilisi, Novosti-Georgia reported last week.

The murder took place on March 2. According to media reports, the victim was 75-year-old Israeli businessman of Georgian origin named Omar K.

Police have detained several suspect and a criminal case was opened in what police called “premeditated murder with aggravating circumstances,” committed by a group of individuals.

The Israeli businessman came to Georgia to meet with his partners. The day before the murder, he rented an apartment in Abanotubani, the ancient district of Tbilisi.

According to a source close to the investigation, the victim was attacked in his rental apartment, his head was broken with a hammer and the attackers escaped with two thousand dollars.

The police were called by the victim’s partners after he had stopped answering his phone.
