An Israeli cyber security firm has unmasked an Iranian cyber espionage hackers’ group known as Charming Kitten, according to a report published this week by CTech.

The Iranian hackers are believed to have been to perpetrators of a campaign targeting political advisers, media outlets, academic researchers and human rights activists focusing on Iran.

Charming Kitten, which set up a news agency called ‘The British News Agency‘ to be the bait with which to lure its targets, was unmasked by the Israel-based ClearSky Cybersecurity firm.

Most of the targets were located in the United States, Israel, the UK and Iran, according to ClearSky, which deals with threat intelligence.

Other countries that were targeted included Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, France, Germany, India, Denmark and Switzerland.
