The management of Azrieli Malls, which operates 17 large-scale shopping malls across Israel, has decided not to hire Bedouin security guards at its Beer Sheva mall, Israel Radio reported Monday morning. The decision was made in response to a demand from the Israeli importer of Apple which operates the iStore chain.

The decision to stop hiring Bedouins at the Beer Sheva mall followed a break in at the local iStore. A Bedouin security guard who alerted management about the plans for the break in hours before it actually took place was suspended from his job suddenly and without an explanation.

The guard served three years as an IDF scout.

Both iStore and the Azrieli Hanegev Mall security company have so far refused comment.
