The Google-owned YouTube video hosting site site has erased the video channel of Tzefat (Safed) Chief Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu.

The channel, which contained more than 900 video Torah lessons, was used by the rabbi to disseminate live Torah lessons in recent years.

Users who tried to browse through the channel to watch the lessons encountered the message “Account deleted.”

The rabbi’s office said in response that it was surprised by the move.

“We hope this isn’t another step in the attempt to shut the mouths from the side of those who have already harassed the rabbi in the past and attempted to fire him several times without success,” Srugim News reported.

Google Israel has not responded to the report.
