Federal Court Blocks ID Law
Based On Controversial Data

A radical group with a history of biased research provided data which a federal court used last week to block a new voter ID law in Texas, ruling the state failed to show that the law would not harm the voting rights of minorities, KleinOnline has learned. The center was heavily instrumental in opposing the voter ID law in Texas as well as a similar law in South Carolina, including providing key data to the Justice Department and to the organizations behind the lawsuits against the two laws.

The voter ID data collected by the group, the Brennan Center for Justice, has been called into question by experts and has been contradicted by other credible studies.

The Brennan Center is located at New York University School of Law. In November 2006, the Brennan Center issued “Citizens Without Proof,” an extensive report that claimed voter ID policies will disfranchise millions of minority, elderly and low-income voters because those voting blocs are less likely to possess documentation than the general population. That singular report is routinely cited by news media and activists seeking to prove voter ID is racist.

In August 2011, the Heritage Foundation critiqued the Brennan report, finding it “both dubious in its methodology and results and suspect in its sweeping conclusions.” According to the Heritage Foundation report, the Brennan Center used biased questioning to obtain its desired result concerning minority voters – a result that is actually contradicted by footnotes buried in the Brennan report itself.

The Brennan Center’s report was based entirely on one survey of only 987 “voting age American citizens.” However, the report contained no information on how the survey determined whether a respondent was actually an American citizen.

One footnote in the Brennan report contradicts the report’s very premise. That note states that “[t]he survey did not yield statistically significant results for differential rates of possession of citizenship documents by race, age, or other identified demographic factors.”

Besides receiving a reported $7.4 million from Soros’s Open Society Institute since 2000, the Brennan Center was also the recipient of grants from the Joyce Foundation from 2000 to 2003. President Obama served on the Joyce board from 1994 through 2002.

Partisan Politics Behind Al Gore’s
Opposition To Electoral College?

Al Gore’s claim that an end to the Electoral College will ensure all voters get equal representation in a popular vote is contradicted by a recently released book that documents how the “popular vote” campaign could see only 14 states – those with the largest populations, most of which are majority-Democrat – decide the presidency for voters in all 50 states.

Gore took to his Current TV to push for the abolishment of the Electoral College and its replacement with a national popular vote process. He claimed that many voters who live outside the dozen or so battleground states are being cheated by the current system that allocates delegates from the state level.

The vote for president is the only one in which all Americans vote for a national leader. In framing the U.S. Constitution, the Founding Fathers rejected a purely popular vote to elect the president in order to balance the power of the larger states against the smaller ones. The Electoral College was fashioned as a compromise between an election of the president by direct popular vote and election by Congress.

This columnist’s new book, Fool Me Twice, documents that a group backed by a who’s who of the progressive left, calling itself the National Popular Vote, or NPV, has already been successful in quietly pushing for abolishing the Electoral College in favor of a popular vote process.

“Under the rubric of a ‘National Popular Vote,’ this plan would allow the 14 most populous American states, mostly majority-Democrat, to determine the outcome of future presidential elections. The voters of the 36 less populous states would then effectively be disenfranchised,” warns the book.

In 2007, Maryland became the first state to approve a “national popular vote” compact. As a result, in a theoretical winner-take-all contest, Maryland would allocate all of its 10 electoral votes to the candidate who won the most votes nationally – even if the same candidate did not win the most votes in Maryland.

Egypt Wants Better Relations With Iran

A delegation of Egyptian military officials and Muslim Brotherhood political leaders quietly met in Tehran with Iranian officials to discuss closer strategic collaboration between the two countries, according to an Egyptian military official who spoke to this column.

Conservative Rabbi Wolpe to Deliver Invocation to Democrats

Monday, September 3rd, 2012

Rabbi David Wolpe of Sinai Temple in Los Angeles confirmed that he will deliver the invocation at the Wednesday evening session of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

His sermon will focus on the ideals animating the United States, Wolpe said, and will precede speeches by Elizabeth Warren, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, and former President Bill Clinton.

In a bipartisan endorsement of the American rabbinate, the presentation by the Conservative Rabbi Wolpe will balance the invocation given by Orthodox Rabbi Meir Soloveichik at the opening session of the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Wolpe has been named the most influential rabbi in America this year by Newsweek magazine and one of the 50 most influential Jews in the world by the Jerusalem Post.

He is the author of seven books and widely known as a newspaper columnist and radio and television commentator.

Today’s Israeli: A Charming New Breed

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

In Israel today there is a new generation whose members may not be outwardly observant but who are intrinsically religious and have the utmost respect for the Torah and its scholars.

This phenomenon is especially true among Sephardim, but so many of the young generation are from “mixed” families, where one spouse is Sephardi and one is Ashkenazi. I have three daughters who eat kitnius on Passover as they have Sephardi husbands.

My sons-in-law are, thank God, observant, but they have many friends who are new breeds, choosing to observe according to their own convenience while respecting Torah and believing in the power of the blessings of tzaddikim.

I got a call about a month ago from someone who asked me if I had ever heard of one of Israel’s most popular non-observant singers.

“Yes, I’ve heard his name,” I said.

“Well,” he said, “I’m his producer and I want to work with you.”

I wasn’t sure if this guy was on the level but I said, “If this is true, I’ve been waiting for this call for a hundred years.”

I told him I had great songs but didn’t push them. “How did you get to me?” I asked.

He said he’d been in Hebron with his buddies and they were getting a tour from the well-known Baruch Marzel, and he asked Marzel why Dov Shurin hadn’t made it big.

“After all,” he told Marzel, “we saw the amazing clips on YouTube of Shurin’s famous songs ‘Zachreni Na’ and ‘V’lo Yinatshu.’ ”

Marzel told him, “People consider Shurin crazy.”

“He’s crazy?” my caller responded. “So are we. Give me his number!”

So now this fellow was on the phone with me and said, “I want to produce a hit for you.”

He told me he’s also a songwriter and had written the big hit song, “Ish Emunah Ein Lo Lifached” (“A man of faith is afraid of nothing”), recorded by the popular Eyal Golan.

I asked him if he was observant.

“Not really,” he answered. “I do love the Torah and just got a berachah from a tzaddik.”

Then he told me he was really busy at the moment with summer concerts but that he would invite me to a barbecue soon and we’d meet each other.

Last week he called to invite me to that barbecue, at his penthouse.

So there I was with about fifty other guests at a penthouse in Tel Aviv. At the head of the table sat the rav of the community; Knesset Member Dr. Michael Ben-Ari; Baruch Marzel; and a man who works full-time to get Jewish girls away from Arab spouses.

Most of the others were non-observant Jews, but with a profound respect for Judaism.

The rabbi suddenly said, “Let’s start with Maariv.” Kippot and siddurim were distributed and we prayed.

Every speaker spoke Torah. From the grill came kabobs, hamburgers, chicken and steak.

The background music was the singing of Avraham Fried, then a song by Chaim Yisrael called “Torah HaKedosha,” which was composed by my new friend, the non-observant producer. Then my own “Zachreni Na,” from my “Biblical Revenge” album, resounded across the penthouse and everyone was up and dancing.

Knesset Member Ben-Ari, seeming to know the importance of this night for me, said he wanted to pay honor to Dov Shurin by explaining who Shimshon HaGibor was. And he told the story of Samson’s birth and death, in a deep and beautiful way, explaining the salvation he brought to us from the hands of the Plishtim, topped off by the final words of Samson to Hashem – my song – “Zachreini na – remember me and strengthen me just this last time, so I can avenge the suffering of our nation at the hands of the Plishtim.”

What I want to emphasize, as we count our days to Rosh Hashanah, is that in our holy Eretz Yisrael there is a new breed of non-observant (may they soon all become observant) Jews who are charming our Maker.

They are charming Him in the most loving way, by respecting Torah and its scholars and the holiness of our land and our people, and declaring, “A man of faith has nothing to fear” as we witness our enemies slaughtering each other while we barbecue the best meats, al ha’aish, on the grill, at a penthouse in Tel Aviv.

Koch: Vote For Obama

Since President Obama and Mitt Romney both have positions that are “acceptable” on Israel, American Jews should vote Democrat in support of Obama’s domestic agenda, contends former New York mayor Ed Koch.

After previously criticizing the Obama administration’s approach toward Israel, Koch is now campaigning for Obama within the U.S. Jewish community.

Speaking on “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio,” Koch was asked whether he is bothered by some Jews who say they are disappointed the ex-mayor is back in the Obama camp. He replied: “I think that I have done more than many people in support of the state of Israel, including many of these critics. So while they have the right to criticize me, that doesn’t make any difference as far as I am concerned. I trust my own judgment.”

Koch said, “I have concluded that their positions [Obama’s and Romney’s] are acceptable…so that I won’t be voting on who’s better between the two candidates on that issue.” Koch stated that since Obama is “good” on Israel, Jews should support the president’s domestic agenda “as it relates to Medicare and Medicaid, Obamacare, abortion, food stamps…”

“On every single domestic issue, the Republicans are dead wrong and the Democrats are dead right,” he said. “If I felt the Democrats are hostile to Israel I would not support them. But they are not.”

Obama Is The Real Radical, Says Bolton

President Obama is the real “radical,” putting “restructuring the U.S. and its economy” ahead of national security, former UN Ambassador John Bolton, a senior adviser to Mitt Romney, declared in an interview with this columnist on New York’s WABC Radio.

Bolton was firing back in response to an interview the president gave to the Associated Press in which Obama categorized Romney’s positions as “extreme.” “I think the Obama tactic obviously is a familiar refrain that has been used against Republicans for years,” retorted Bolton when asked about Obama’s statements.

Continued Bolton: “And in fact, it is Obama who is the radical here on a whole wide range of issues, especially on national security. He is the first president since FDR whose initial thought on wakening in the morning isn’t what threats does the U.S. face. Instead he has thoughts of restructuring the U.S. and its economy.”

“I think he is comfortable with America in decline,” added Bolton. “I think his massive cuts in defense while expanding every other part of the government demonstrate that.”

Obama To Palestinians:
Please Wait Until After The Election

The Obama administration has asked the Palestinian Authority to delay its bid to unilaterally declare a state at the United Nations until after November’s presidential election, a senior PA official told KleinOnline. The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the request was passed to PA President Mahmoud Abbas’s office by the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem earlier this month.

The official said the PA has not yet made a decision about the timing of its application with the UN General Assembly for accepting “Palestine” as a non-member state. The official, however, did indicate that Abbas is inclined toward waiting until after the U.S. presidential election.

Any UN push by the PA prior to the election would place the Obama administration in an uncomfortable position.

Last September, the PA failed to secure enough votes to declare a state at the UN Security Council after the U.S. played a key role in scuttling the statehood attempt. The PA pledged to take a similar request to the General Assembly, where it expects to garner the support of more than 130 countries.

It Pays To Be Close To The President

Top Obama administration officials are tied to energy companies that received hundreds of millions of dollars in stimulus money, according to documentation in the recently released book Fool Me Twice by this columnist.

One such recipient is BrightSource Energy, a solar energy company attempting to build the world’s largest solar power plant even though some are concerned that such a venture is too risky an investment for the federal government. BrightSource received a $1.37 billion federal loan guarantee, the largest the Department of Energy has ever given for a solar power project.

Iran Warns Saudi Arabia, Qatar:
Don’t Cooperate With Israel, Or Else…

Iran has warned Saudi Arabia and Qatar that if either country allows Israel to use its airspace, Tehran may retaliate directly against them, according to informed Arab government officials speaking to this column.

One official said that in talks with Gulf nations, Iran “hinted” that a couple of Iranian missiles “may lose their way” and strike Qatar, Saudi Arabia, or any other Gulf country that allows Israel to use its airspace in any attack against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

Such threats may help to account for a reported change in Saudi Arabia’s attitude toward an Israeli strike on Iran. Last week, Israel’s Yedioth Aharonot newspaper reported that Saudi Arabia has informed the Jewish state that it will intercept any Israeli aircraft crossing its airspace en route to Iran.

Saudi Arabia does not maintain an open diplomatic relationship with Israel. But the Sunni Muslim country, together with Qatar, Jordan, and others, feels threatened by the growing and opposing influence of Iran, dominated by Shiite Islam.

There have been multiple reports of Saudi cooperation with Israel on the Iranian nuclear issue. There were claims in both 2009 and 2010, for example, that then-Mossad chief Meir Dagan met with Saudi intelligence officials. One report said Dagan went to Saudi Arabia in 2009 to gain assurances that the country would turn a blind eye to Israeli jets violating Saudi airspace during any raid on Iran’s nuclear plans. Both governments denied the reports.

Egypt Mulling Keeping Tanks In Sinai

Egypt’s Islamist President Mohammed Morsi is considering keeping tanks in the Sinai Peninsula on a permanent basis, according to a senior Egyptian military official who spoke to KleinOnline. The military buildup would violate a key provision of the peace accords signed with Israel in 1979 that calls for the total demilitarization of the peninsula.

Over the last two weeks, there have been reports of Egypt sending in light tanks, armored vehicles, and attack helicopters in the Sinai purportedly to fight Islamic groups blamed for a spate of attacks and attempted attacks against both Israel and Egyptian police. The Jewish state has kept largely quiet about the Egyptian military deployments, choosing instead to let Cairo’s military attempt to root out the jihadists that have taken up positions throughout the Sinai.

The Egyptian military leadership has long been considered a quiet ally of Israel. However, Morsi’s most recent unilateral sacking of the Egyptian military brass has sent alarm bells ringing across Israel. The move signals the centralization of Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood coalition and his presidency’s dominance over the military, which has long been seen as an independent force.

Muslim Brotherhood leaders over the years have called for Egypt to abandon the peace treaty with Israel. The treaty was the basis for the opening of billions of dollars in U.S. aid that built the Egyptian military into one of the strongest forces in the Middle East today, second perhaps only to Israel.

U.S. Makes Life Easier For
Charity Helping Syrian Rebels

A charity now operating out of Washington, D.C., recently received U.S. nonprofit status to raise money for the Free Syrian Army.

The D.C.-based Syrian Support Group boasts on its website that it received “a license from the U.S. Department of Treasury Office of Foreign Asset Control that permits the organization to raise funds and provide certain services to the Free Syrian Army.” The group says it is raising funds in the U.S. to provide “certain logistical, communications and other services to the [Free Syrian Army].”

Brian Sayers, director of government relations for the Syrian Support Group, admitted in an NPR interview the money raised by his organization will go to weapons purchases as well. The Syrian Support Group addresses concerns on its website about whether some of the money will go to Al Qaeda organizations fighting with the Free Syrian Army. There have been scores of reports worldwide of Al Qaeda and other jihad groups joining the ranks of the Free Syrian Army in its insurgency against Bashar al-Assad.

“SSG acknowledges reports of increasing Al-Qaeda and other extremist activity within Syria. SSG hopes to serve as a counter-weight to this development and will only provide financial support to military councils who have adopted the Free Syrian Army’s Proclamation of Principles.”

No-Fly Zone In Store For Syria?

The U.S. held conversations with Turkey about the possibility of imposing a no-fly zone on Syria in September or October, according to a senior Syrian official speaking to this column.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton herself acknowledged in a briefing this past weekend that a no-fly zone was among the options under consideration. However, she stopped short of any pledge on the subject.

The senior Syrian official said that information passed on from Russia indicates that Clinton told Turkey that a NATO-imposed no-fly-zone is a “strong possibility,” which led to immediate contingency planning by both Russia and Syria for such an eventuality. The official further said that the working assumption by Russia and Syria is that Israel could be drawn into any conflict resulting from the imposition of an international force in Syria. The official did not elaborate further.

Many analysts believe Syria’s air force is not capable of responding effectively to a NATO-imposed no-fly zone. There is some fear Syria could reply by attempting to widen the conflict by attacking Israel, including firing missiles into the Jewish state. Syria is known to have a large arsenal of missiles that can reach all of Israel.

The Syrian official, meanwhile, said that any NATO deployment would come under the banner of the Responsibility to Protect doctrine. Responsibility to Protect, or Responsibility to Act, as cited by President Obama, is a set of principles, now backed by the United Nations, based on the idea that sovereignty is not a privilege but a responsibility that can be revoked if a country is accused of “war crimes,” “genocide,” “crimes against humanity” or “ethnic cleansing.”

Obama Wants To Extend Government Munificence

President Obama last week boasted about government assistance to the auto industry while advocating extending such “success” to “every industry.”

This reporter’s newly released book, Fool Me Twice: Obama’s Shocking Plans for the Next Four Years Exposed, details Obama’s second-term plans to do just that, including federal government intervention to determine the “value” of individual jobs in the private sector instead of allowing employers to pay what they want.

Also on tap is the possible initiation of a massive government-funded jobs program that could even include the re-creation of a 21st century version of FDR’s Works Progress Administration program within the Department of Labor. There are also second-term plans for a green “stimulus” and the possible founding of a federal “green” bank or “Energy Independence Trust,” which would “borrow from the federal treasury to provide low-cost financing to private-sector investments in clean energy.”

Progressive organizations behind White House policy have also crafted specific, second-term plans for the federal government to enact a “living wage” that would force all employers to increase the salaries of the nation’s workers to meet “basic needs” such as housing, food, utilities, transportation, health care and recreation.

Fool Me Twice details second-term recommendations to Obama that aim for more government funds to the manufacturing industries, most prominently to the “green” industry. A seminal report by the de facto policy nerve center of the Obama White House, the Center for American Progress, titled “Cutting the Cost of Clean Energy 1.0,” recommends a federal “green bank” for the sole purpose of loaning or granting public funds to so-called clean energy companies.

An organization that calls itself the Presidential Climate Action Project, or PCAP, has been working with the Obama administration since the beginning to help craft and implement White House environmental policy.

Meanwhile, other progressive groups tied to the White House back the 2011 21st Century Works Progress Administration Act. The legislation would “immediately put Americans to work rebuilding our nation and strengthening our communities,” according to its literature. The 21st century reincarnation of Roosevelt’s WPA would operate under the auspices of a Works Progress Administration created within the Department of Labor and headed by the secretary of labor.

Obama has made “economic fairness” the centerpiece of his second-term agenda. The president’s January 2012 State of the Union address called for “equal pay for equal work.” Fool Me Twice documents how progressive groups behind Obama’s first-term agenda are now pushing plans, some already attempted in previous progressive Democrat legislation, for a second Obama term push for “Paycheck Fairness” and so-called equal pay fairness.

Afghanistan Mujaheedeen Join The Fighting In Syria

At least 500 hardcore mujaheedeen from Afghanistan have been killed in clashes with Syrian forces this week, claimed a senior Syrian official speaking to this column. The official said many of the mujaheeden now fighting in Syria previously were fighting the U.S. in Afghanistan.

Ironically, earlier this week, Reuters reported that President Obama signed a secret order authorizing U.S. support for rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his government.

According to the report, which quotes U.S. sources familiar with the matter, Obama’s order was approved earlier this year and gives the CIA and other U.S. agencies authority to provide broad support that could help the rebels oust Assad. The White House continues to deny directly arming the rebels, stating it is only providing non-lethal aid.

In addition to the Afghan mujaheeden who died fighting in Aleppo, according to the Syrian official, claimed, this column has learned that Jihadiya Salafia in the Gaza Strip, a group which represents Al Qaeda in the coastal territory, earlier this week declared three days of mourning for its own jihadists who died in Syria in recent days.

Was Sunstein Too Hot To Keep Aboard?

Did regulatory czar Cass Sunstein resign in response to White House concern that some of Sunstein’s controversial views could become election issues?

President Obama released a brief statement on the departure of Sunstein, thanking him for “his friendship and for his years of exceptional service.” The White House statement did not provide any reason for Sunstein’s departure.

During his academic career, Sunstein has espoused several controversial views on regulating the media and Internet. This journalist first reported in 2008 that Sunstein proposed the government ban “conspiracy theorizing,” by, among other methods, sending agents to infiltrate websites and chat rooms. Among the beliefs Sunstein would ban is the theory that global warming is a deliberate fraud.

In his 2009 book, On Rumors, Sunstein argued that websites should be obliged to remove “false rumors” while libel laws should be altered to make it easier to sue for spreading such “rumors.” In the book, Sunstein cited as a primary example of “absurd” and “hateful” remarks, reports by “right-wing websites” alleging an association between President Obama and Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers. He also singled out radio talker Sean Hannity for “attacking” Obama regarding the president’s “alleged associations.”

Ayers became a name in the 2008 presidential campaign when it was disclosed he worked closely with Obama for years. Obama also launched his political career at a 1995 fundraiser in Ayers’s apartment.

This journalist also previously reported that Sunstein drew up a “First Amendment New Deal” – a new “Fairness Doctrine” that would include the establishment of a panel of “nonpartisan experts” to ensure “diversity of view” on the airwaves.

Controversial Plan Wants Money To Go
From Green Berets To Green Energy

Progressive organizations behind White House policy have crafted specific, second term plans for President Obama to transform the U.S. Armed Forces into a social work-style organization designed to combat “global warming,” fight global poverty, remedy “injustice,” bolster the United Nations, and increase “peacekeeping” forces worldwide.

These schemes and others are documented in the just released book by this reporter, Fool Me Twice: Obama’s Shocking Plans for the Next Four Years Exposed.

Major progressive groups with deep ties to the Obama administration produced a comprehensive, 96-page report with specific recommendations for how Obama should reform the U.S. military during his second term in office.

It strongly argues for the reduction of the U.S. nuclear arsenal to no more than 292 deployed nuclear weapons and the complete elimination of the Trident II nuclear missile – a process Obama already initiated in April 2010 when he signed a deal with Russia reducing stocks of weapons grade plutonium.

The report also recommends the U.S. cease all further development of missile defenses. The military’s vital Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation program is to be cut by $10 billion across the board.

Next on the chopping block: the complete cancelation of the second SSN-744 Virginia Class submarine. Similarly targeted for cancelation are the V-22 Osprey helicopter and the Navy and Marine Corps versions of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.
