Israel filed a formal complaint with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) following the exposure of the “Golan File,” a clandestine Hezbollah unit that is operating in Syria with an objective of establishing another front against Israel from the Golan Heights.

The IDF on Wednesday published classified information about the “Golan File,” the name for the unit which is commanded by Ali Musa Daqduq, a senior operative in the Lebanon-based terrorist organization. The new terror cell has been operating in Syria, unbeknownst to the Assad regime.

Israel’s ambassador to the UN Danny Danon stated after filing the complaint that “the State of Israel will not ignore the conversion of Syria and Lebanon into a military front against it and will act forcefully and aggressively against Tehran’s aggression.”

“The Security Council still does not recognize Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, despite the accumulation of evidence of clear, and cross-border, terrorist activity,” he charged.

The US, Canada, the United Kingdom and the Arab League and other countries have designated Hezbollah in its entirety as a terrorist organization.

In his letter to the Council, Danon called on the UNSC to denounce Hezbollah’s activity that the IDF exposed, and to recognize it as a terrorist organization.

Relating to the terror cell’s exposure, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that “Hezbollah is a terror organization. It’s a proxy of Iran. It does Iran’s bidding and this terror network is part of Iran’s aggression against Israel.”

He said he has “a clear message for Iran and for Hezbollah: Israel knows what you’re doing; Israel knows where you’re doing it. What we’ve uncovered today is just the tip of the iceberg. We know a lot more.”

“Israel will continue to do all that’s necessary to defend itself. We will continue to use all means, overt and covert, to block Iran’s effort to use Syria, Lebanon and Gaza as forward bases for attacking Israel,” he vowed.
