On Thursday Israel will be clearing land mines around the eastern shore of Lake Kinneret.

Landmine destruction activities are set to begin at the site of Gofra on the northeastern shore of Lake Kinneret, also known as the Sea of Galilee, as part of the mine clearing Gofra 1009 project on behalf of the Ministry of Defense.

Officials say that area residents can expect to hear two loud explosions between the hours of 9 am and 3:30 pm.

The work will spread the fragments over an area of some 500 meters; therefore, officials said, “It is strictly forbidden to approach the
northern border on the shore of Gofra, the southern border on Halukim beach (eastern shore of Lake Kinneret), it is absolutely forbidden to sail or swim between the beaches of the Shufra and Halukim, nor the Naqib Observatory.”

Israel Police say Highway 92 will be blocked off in both directions for about 15 minutes at the time of the explosions.

“Please be careful and preserve your personal safety,” police added.
