GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has joined the voices of those sending warm wishes for a speedy recovery to former President Shimon Peres.

The 93-year-old elder statesman suffered a major stroke earlier this week and is hospitalized at Chaim Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer in Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv.

In his letter, Trump wished Peres a speedy recovery, praising his achievements.

“You are among the last of a generation of leaders who fought for the right of the Jewish people t o shape their own destiny and your legacy stands tall,” the letter said, according to a Peres staff member.

Pope Francis also sent warm wishes, praying for the strength of the family and for a full recovery, according to a statement from the Peres Peace Center.

Prof. Rafi Walden, personal physician and the former president’s son-in-law, said Thursday “there is another real improvement today,” adding he “squeezes the hand and he moves his legs. Definitely these are indications that he is listening and is responsive to our calls.”

Nevertheless, doctors caution that Peres still remains on a respirator to assist him with breathing, and is still at risk. His condition is listed as serious but stable.

Others who have called the Center to inquire about his status include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Russia’s Presidente Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Bill Clinton and his wife, Democratic presidential candidate and former U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
