London Mayor Sadiq Khan

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan had the job that no one ever wants on Wednesday night: As London’s first Muslim mayor, Khan faced the media to give a statement about the worst radical Islamist terror attack to strike the city in years.

At least one police officer, identified as PC Keith Palmer, was killed after having been repeatedly stabbed by the terrorist, who brandished an eight-inch knife. The killer stabbed two other officers before he was shot and neutralized. He later died of his wounds.

The death toll and number of injured has risen since Khan spoke with reporters. By late Wednesday night, four people were dead, plus the terrorist, and 40 people were wounded.

The identity of the terrorist, who was inspired by radical Islam, is now known; but British authorities have not yet released his name.
