The “Zionist regime” is behind the civil war in Syria, in an attempt to weaken the “resistance,” the Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani announced Sunday, IRNA reported.

“Resistance” is the common Arab term for the attacks on Israel from Judea and Samaria, Gaza and south Lebanon.

Larijani voiced his accusations in the Majlis-parliament, in reaction to the much touted remarks of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the Persian plots to kill the Jews.

While in Moscow last week, Netanyahu noted that the Persian empire had once before schemed to annihilate all the Jews and are doing it again in our time. Netanyahu met in Moscow with President Vladimir Putin to discuss, among other things, the possible ending of the Syrian civil War.

Larijani said, “Netanyahu distorted the history of ancient Iran; it seems that he has read neither Torah nor history.”

“Of course, one cannot expect an evil Zionist to tell the truth,” he explained.

The speaker added that Netanyahu has set preconditions for establishment of peace in Syria, thus proving that the war in Syria “is a war against the resistance.”

Larijani said that all the “ongoing adventurous actions in the region are pre-planned to pave the way for the Zionist regime to complete its dominance,” and urged Sunni Muslim countries to abandon their reliance on Israel and join up with Iran’s war against the Zionist foe.

Iran’s Sunni neighbors along the Persian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia, have soften their line on Israel since Iran’s nuclear deal with the West which turned the Islamic Republic into a much more immediate danger than the “Zionist regime.”
