When The Ship Of State Comes Apart – On Horatian Metaphor: Israel, Iran and...

Horace was born in 65 BCE and died in 8 BCE. His ode (I, 14) on the "ship of state" pertains to ancient Rome, but it might just as well refer to Israel after it concedes to "livewith a nuclear Iran," and also to "live with Palestine." The more or less concurrent arrival of (1) Iranian nuclear weapons, and (2) an independent Palestinian state, could have an intolerable effect upon Israel. Indeed, this injurious interactive outcome - known technically in science, medicine and engineering as synergistic- would likely be far greater than the simple sum of these two discrete parts.

Tribute to Rabbi Sholom Gold of Jerusalem: The Most Passionate of Zionists

Rabbi Gold, who passed away this week at 88, was known for feisty and infectious Zionist passion and for biting witticism. He understood God’s love for all Jews in absolute terms (which he sought to emulate absolutely), and he understood God’s grant of the Land of Israel to the Jewish People in absolute terms, in a totality wrapped with kedusha, holiness. These are not gifts that one can simply fritter away.

Actors, Activists, And Assorted Liars

Those who call for the destruction of the State of Israel, do so in the full knowledge that they are calling for a second Holocaust. They lamely pretend to others and perhaps even to themselves that they mean something else. They are simply acting.

True Role Models (Part Five)

In the 1940's and 1950's, many young American Jews were brought up with the twin goals of living in Eretz Yisrael and replacing the lost Jews murdered in the Holocaust.

Mutilating American Civilians In Fallujah As Revenge: The Criminality Of Terrorist ‘Retaliations’

Earlier this month, a previously unknown Arab/Islamic terror group claimed the murder and mutilation of four American civilian contractors in western Iraq as "retaliation" for Israel's assassination of Hamas leader Sheikh Ahmed Yassin.

People Don’t Look And People Don’t Think

Interestingly, Rooney’s last novel was published by a Chinese State-approved publishing house. Hmm! One million Muslim Chinese in concentration camps doesn’t seem to trouble Ms. Rooney in the slightest.

From the US to Israel, Conservatives Stumble

Conservative movements and parties cannibalize themselves.

Madmen and Crowds

Crowd culture expects everyone to follow the leader, to join the meme, to move with the flow, but that is something that crazy people cannot do.

Iron Dome: The Strategic Disaster

Defense systems are important, just as tank shields are vital. But that is true only when we are on the offensive and focused on victory. In defensive-defeatist mode, these systems draw the end near. They are like aspirin for cancer.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach: A Warrior-Scholar Falls in Israel – The Death of Benzion Netanyahu

In the time that I spent with Professor Benzion Netanyahu, I discerned a Jewish nationalist of phenomenal determination. Zionism was in his DNA and I have rarely met a more passionate Jewish patriot or a prouder Jew. He had a sweeping view of history and could clearly argue the precarious state of the Jewish people throughout time.

Lodz Jewish Cemetery

The cemetery in Lodz is said to be one of the largest Jewish cemeteries in Europe, with about 230,000 graves.

As America Has Become More Secular, It Has Become Less Free

Jefferson and Franklin proposed that the great seal of the United States depict Moses leading the Jews out of Egypt. The seal’s proposed motto: “Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to G-d.”

The Eloquent Chief Rabbi Who Would Not Fight Israel’s Enemies

The central quality of leadership is not eloquence but moral courage, a preparedness to be hated in the pursuit what’s right.

Trashing Nationalism isn’t Defending Jews

Demonizing those who march with Israeli flags on “Jerusalem Day” and conservatives who push back against the Marxist war on the West is equally disingenuous and wrong.

The Beginning Of The Left’s End

I was filled with an uncomfortable feeling in the face of the Itamar massacre. Everyone is in shock. I feel horrible pain. But I am not shocked.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Israel Not to Blame in Gaza

March 16 – 66th Anniversary Of Krakow Ghetto Liquidation

A few-hundred Kracovians and guests from abroad, including Israel, participated in the annual March of Remembrance. Ghetto survivors, representatives of local authorities, diplomats (including Ann Hall, U.S. Consul General in Krakow and David Peleg, Israeli Ambassador in Poland) and many "ordinary people" came to commemorate those who were killed in the ghetto during WW II. We walked from the former Umschlagplatz in Podgorze to the site of former KL Plaszow.

How the NY Times Covered the Deaths of Stalin and Queen Elizabeth’s

The Knitted Yarmulka

There was a time in Israel when any yarmulka was a negative factor in attaining a senior position in a company. When I first arrived in Israel some 38 years ago, the situation for senior religious employees very much reminded me of my days in America when I was looking for a computer job 42 years ago in New York City.

It’s Not About Shalit

Polls taken just prior to Gilad Shalit’s release show that the main opposition to the deal was in the national religious sector. How can we explain this? Are national religious people heartless?

The lords of the land attempted to prevent the residents of Nazareth Illit from voting for Gabso. But the people – heaven help us – disobeyed the lords of the land and nevertheless elected him.

The Dehumanization Of Blacks

Yet, we are supposed to believe that the most important thing about a black individual is that he or she is black. And if we don’t honor that fact – if we aim to be "colorblind" – we are racist. This dehumanizing nonsense goes for racial truth these days

The ‘Geneva Initiative’ And Arab-Perpetrated Jewish Genocide: Nothing New Under The Sun

The so-called "Geneva Initiative" is merely the latest expression of Arab determination to "liquidate" (a commonly-used term in Arab documents about the "Zionist Entity") Israel. Although less explicit than usual, the Geneva refusal to fully renounce a Palestinian "Right of Return" means nothing less than a carefully-conceived plan for demographic as well as military measures in the ongoing war against Israel.
