That brings the entire Al Qaeda origins back to Square One, where it was none other than the American government that helped it get off the ground in the 1980s.

The smell of blood attracted other jihadists

A Muslim group was formed in Pakistan to help finance the war, It was headed by bin Laden and a Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood leader, Abdullah Yusuf Azzam.

Bin Laden used his Saudi connections with oil  sheikhs to turn the organization into a major terrorist operation.

The Muslim Maktab al-Khidamat (MAK) organization then set up operations in – three guesses – the United States  of America.

The American government later withdrew its support.

Bin Laden and Al Qaeda no longer needed them, and the rest is history –  a very dark history.
